  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Some people leave behind letters to be read when they die, and sometimes this letter exists for the sole purpose of increasing the grief of the ones left behind. Why do some people say to their closest individuals that they are going to kill themselves? What do they speak when leaving hints for others to catch..?
And when I say "some people", I'm first referring to myself. I catch myself doing some of those and I feel bad about it. I'm afraid of being alone in this case so let me ask here, why am I (are we?) like this..?

Low-key I wish people would even get my hints (that are already crystal clear).

But since that doesn't work sometimes we just have to say it out loud.

...Only for them to still not believe it! Or worse, try to gaslight you into doubting yourself!

All in all, we're like this because there is no winning.

Maybe it's because you hope that someone will see your suffering and will try to save (or even just try to help) you? There's no shame in that, god knows I've done that too in the past.

Reminds me of a postcard and why send postcards? To rub it in that you're having a great holiday, not quite. I mean maybe. Mostly because you wish they were there with you, you miss them or want to tell them where you are. It's spitting facts not guilt

I imagine it's for a few reasons. Either we want some sort of support. They're quite heavy thoughts to carry alone. Suicide is a frightening thing to do as well. Why do people talk to others about a major job interview coming up or, a life changing decision? Because they want support. Maybe to help them make that decision, maybe for others just to be conscious that we're feeling vulnerable emotionally. Other people may also want support to get over these thoughts and 'recover'.

I imagine the other reason we tell people is to warn them. Suicide can come as a terrible shock so, I think we sometimes tell people in order that they can become more acclimatised to the idea.

I think also, by telling people, we give them a choice. There's a risk in forming/ maintaining a friendship or relationship with a suicidal person. To me, it felt fairer to make my remaining friend aware of that risk. They then get the choice whether they want to stay in contact, knowing I may well be gone before they were expecting.
