I had to go with my closest friends but this answer is boring. I try to find an answer concerning people which are publicly known.
The thing is I have fallen for a lot of Germans who I later considered as horrible. I liked them because they were popular and I have fallen for their tricks.
I liked Immanuel Kant (the funny thing is how we Germans pronounce his name). At least I have pretended that when I was a teenager to sound smart. I think I only knew the golden rule (categorical imperative). Later I read his stance on suicide which made me pretty angry. He also expressed some racist remarks but this was quite usual to that time.
I liked Angela Merkel. When I was a teenager I was a conservative. When I grew up the right wing populist party emerged. And I had to decide which party I should support. My parents always expressed right-wing stances. I decided for Merkel's christian democrats. I think she was quite a professional politician but also made many mistakes. Now I hate her somewhat. She never cared about poor people and her stance on assisted suicide is abysmal.
There were also fake intellectuals I have fallen for. Quacksalver who are seen as morons by most scientists. A little bit embarassed by that fact. Or comedians who I now consider as quite artificial and self-serving
Honestly in order to decide I have searched for the most popular Germans and I hate 90% of the people who they showed me.
I go for writers. Maybe Berthold Brecht or Kurt Tucholsky. I cannot remember their work but I think we read some of them in school and I liked them. They were against the Nazis and were therefore attacked by them. However when we speak about writers that used the German language I clearly go for Kafka.
What is your answer? Never would I expect any joke as an answer. You guys are way too mature for that.
