  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I am asking myself if they are former pro-choice people, maybe former normal members of this forum or if they are just strictly against suicide. I think many of them are deeply religious or don't want to accept that a family member or friend has chosen to end his/her life.
For me personally the religious moralists are the worst.
Don't forget journalists who want to make money by searching a scapegoat that some lifes are unbevlievable unbearable.

They are generally mothers of deeply unhappy people who visited this forum for relief. The mothers then attributed their children's unhappiness to us when we were simply providing their children with an exit from their unbearable pain.

I understand it must be extremely hard to have a child grow in your body for 9 months and then look after them for decades only to have them end their lives. But no one makes this decision lightly. If life is bearable people choose to live it. People generally CTB because the pain is unbearable. We aren't the ones who ruined the lives of suicidal people.

In a broad , unfocused sense:

corporate and government entities who have a vested interested in higher numbers of consumers and tax $laves

pro life mostly religious people

in a narrow , active sense

most likely law enforcement , who probably snoop around a bit here . I suspect they mostly try to get intel on fentanyl or other hard drugs used to CTB

fix the 26 people

To be fair, the pain of losing a loved one, particularly a child, to suicide must be absolutely agonizing and unbearable. I can't blame many of the parents of Fixthe26 for feeling the way that they do. That being said, I have to wonder if the pain would be any more bearable if their child had died by hanging, jumping, or gunshot. These are the "traditional" methods of suicide, for lack of a better word. The one thing these folks have in common is that their child died by using SN, which, to be honest, most people don't know about as a method until they come on this site. That is certainly how I found out about it. Now what I'm about to say may not be very popular on here, but I'm going to say it anyway. I think we should all have a little more compassion for these people when we talk about them. They're dealing with profound grief, after all, and our loved ones will be in their exact same situation if and when we die by suicide. Note that I'm not using "ctb". I'm calling it what it is - suicide, because ctb merely trivializes it. Yes, these were adults who made the momentous decision to end their own lives, but to these parents, they will always be their children and they'll never be convinced that they were acting in their right minds. While I support our right to choose, I think we need to be a little more sensitive to those left behind who have to deal with the aftermath of a death by suicide. So, I'm suggesting that we should try to rise above the hatred and be more empathetic with the Fixthe26 folks, rather than judge them so harshly in our posts.

I don't think there's as prominent a counter movement to pro-life as members would believe. I think mostly it's a lashing out against the attempts by familiar groups (Parents, police, educators etc) to try and "seize" control. For the most part i've seen a respect for people who genuinely want others to recover. But groups that don't include the viewpoints of the people they're trying to help are mostly the ones generally not welcome. I do agree that there should be a more stable middle ground where the two groups can communicate, but that's an area above what I'm familiar with.

Anyone who is willing to spread lies and disinformation about this forum for personal gain.

There's a difference between parents grieving and people who go on personal crusades to change the world without considering the way it affects other people.

Even if I was pro life I can guarantee I would still disagree with Fix the 26. The whole point of that organization is that there are 26 words in a US internet law that protects service providers and domain hosts from liability on any sites that they host. Most people can agree that this is a necessary thing if freedom of speech is to be allowed on the internet in fact other social media websites like Facebook or Twitter already can't seem to get that and so they try to silence voices they disagree with.

Ironically, if this gets sought out to its logical conclusion and they get their way it will be way more likely to shut out conservative voices than anything else and yet FT26 seems to mostly be conservative parents themselves so not only are they using grief as an excuse to ignore basic human rights, they are also destroying themselves by making it so their own political beliefs on other things will be made easier to be silenced.

I feel like, as a rule of thumb, this forum should always have a stance of being understanding and empathetic regarding individual contexts, the environments that lead to certain mindsets and stances. I've been here for a short time, but this kind of community isn't new to me, generally speaking, I don't think you'll find many people here who don't have a grasp on the pain pro-life communities are going through. However, a quick hop to the Fixthe26 official website will show you that they resort to very standard strawmanning, cherrypicking of user posts, and decontextualization of posts. Pro-Life communities tend to antagonize this kind of community, without giving much room for debate or understanding (at least, from my personal experience), so showing the empathy you mention sounds good on paper but it's tiresome when put into practice. I'm by no means saying we should antagonize them, but it's hard to find a platform where proper discussions can happen.

Those who insist that suicidal people must continue to exist despite having no idea what their internal world is like.

My biggest pet peeves are people who say they believe in a right die but really believe that one must grovel and beg at the feet of the medical profession for a peaceful way out of a life they never asked for. Most people do not believe in a right to die, they believe it should be a privilege.
