Which side of the neck (from your perspective) should you put the slipknot on?

It doesn't seem like I can edit the original so I'll just add a comment. From what I've read it seems like the left side is the best and most common. This would be from my perspective and not from the perspective of someone watching me correct? So it would be the left side to me, but the right side to someone facing me, right? Also, does anyone know why the left side is better (if that's correct)?
