Maybe the outer world of the internet has a stronger impact on SaSu than SaSu on the rest of the internet. I guess the impact is rather small. And maybe one had to go back in time to altsuicideholiday to get the full picture.
Where is SaSu exchanging with other places? I have the feeling we are sort of the pariahs of the internet. There is a wikipedia page, the New York Times, BBC, Vice etc. reported on us and most of them in extremely one-sided negative ways. There was a lot of pressure to make the forum more open to recovery as an option to pursue. I think overall the ship was steered in a pretty good way. There was a time where people who ctb were called legends. I was against that.
And I think it is good that this forum is open for oppressed minorities.
On facebook there were groups in favor of banning SaSu the same on Twitter. Though, SaSu has an X account. There was a long thread on kiwifarms attacking this forum which is kind of ironic and paradoxic. When this forum is covered on Youtube there is literally the Streisand effect attracting a young audiene to this forum. And as I predicted horror story Youtuber reported about this forum eventually.
I think there is no real philosophical unterbau (base/superstructure) I can deliver. But some laws of the internet don't really apply to this forum. You don't have to pretend everything was flowers and sunshine in your life. Extremely stigmatized topics can be discussed this is why science is interested to analyze our data. There is also an attention economy on here. But there are barely any selfies most on here are completely anonymous. There are no ads on here and probably never will. There are no bots that steer the discussions. I wonder for how long.
Maybe SaSu has a function for the mainstream society to explain the phenomenon suicide. We don't want to talk about. And if we do we only allow one perspective. We don't want to waste resources but if we do it it should be not enough to live, but enough not to die because of it. In the end the forum is a scapegoat for the society for why people decide to commit suicide. With not much empirical evidence to support that claim. In the end it is supressed in the collective consciousness. Something one should not talk about. Something to keep silent about. Though, there will be some lurkers who realize sooner or later that the image media wants to portray about this place isn't that accurate.
