I read the a newspaper recently. The chancellor of Germany held a speech in New York in the UN headquarter. The newspaper wrote that NY is the place Germans love and mystifiy. I think there is some truth in it.
I think there are a couple of reasons. Germans are generally more left-leaning than US-citizens and the East coast is policitally liberal. The skyline is awesome. It is city full of life. Maybe 9/11 also contributed to it. Because it presented NY as a symbol of liberty and Western values.
Many fictional series take NY as city for the story. I can remember Two Broke Girls from the time when I watched shitty TV series. The whole story is a huge scam. They have a little cupcake business and it should portray the American dream from rags to riches. It is such a joke. In NY the prices for the apartments are astromnomical they (the broke girls) could never pay for the location.
I think if you are a conservative could might go for Texas or Florida. Also due to the gun laws, weather and pandemic politics.
Then one could prefer the West coast. California for example Hollywood. If you want to become an actor this is the place to go to. And there is also Silicon valley for IT specialists.
The thing is the US is such a diverse and huge country. It can be a fantastic country to live. However in my point of view only people with money can really enjoy it. If you are poor you are fuck. But I won't dive deep into politics.
It would be cool to go there for vacation. I would probably choose NY. Also for living (in case I had money). I am pretty sure I will never travel to the US due to the lack of money. But I think I can live with that. My other problems are the reason why I cannot live like that.
Which is you favorite destination in the US?
