For those who's methods aren't reliant on a specific location, where are you planning to do it?

I've observed that a lot of people seem to do it in their cars or in hotels away from home, friends, and family etc. Seems pretty reasonable, especially if you'd rather not subject your family or people you know to the sight of your dead body, or the thought that you died somewhere nearby. I live with my family, and I know that the knowledge of someone having died in their own home would be rattling, so I'd like to try and do this but...

The thing is, I'm worried about what comes after CTB, and who will find my body. There's too many uncontrollable variables when trying to CTB far from home. I'm worried that some random person will find me and do something stupid like post pics of my body on social media, or it will be broadcasted on the local news before my family even gets a chance to find out.

What can I do to avoid stuff like that? or should I just say fuck it, lock myself in my room, and kill myself at home out of convenience?

@Umi @Oblivion

I doubt that a respectable hotel at least would allow their employees to do such a thing, because it's bad publicity. They don't want to have to deal with the PR surrounding it. Nobody wants to go to the hotel where someone died. Hell not even a motel wants to deal with that.

At home in my bed.

Same. And I'll be leaving a window cracked, in the Scandinavian tradition when a loved one dies. An homage to my Finnish/Swedish roots.

"When a loved one nears the end of his or her life in Denmark, a special tradition unfolds. It's a simple act – a swift gesture that takes little effort, but says so very much: the opening of a window for "the soul" of the loved one to pass through once they have died."

I would be most comfortable doing it at home, but I live alone and am afraid that I won't be found for a long time. I plan on going to a hotel and leaving an envelope with my health care number and ID and a note to call the authorities. Hopefully this will prevent some poor housekeeper finding me. I will, however leave my notes at home so no strangers read them.

Do you rent? My plan is to send a delayed message to my landlord and police a few hours or so after I ctb home.

As several others here: at home in bed, if I don't change my plan. I live alone and in an apt complex with mostly elderly people so it is not uncommon at all for someone to die here (in fact, I recently lost one of my neighbors). Will be sending delayed emails to the police, though, and make sure it's a time I won't be looked for for a few days to prevent anyone else from finding me.

Yes, I do rent. My landlord lives above me but is gone to work a week at a time. I really wouldn't want to put him through that. Coming home to a smelly house... ( I'm sure the smell would go through the vents). He's been a good landlord so I wouldn't want him to be the one who found me

That is a good idea about the delayed messages though

@Jynxer find your local emergency services anonymous email etc set up a delayed message message asking to pick up what is left, within a reasonable time frame (no accidental saves in hospital wake ups) so they'll come. Here's a random thought do you get a long with any of you're neighbors? Maybe set a delayed message asking them to phone the EMTs

I live with my parents and sibling but they're usually not at home, and I have some time before uni starts. I'll be alone at home, and if I CTB in the afternoon, I have until evening before they find me, so I guess I'll do it at home. Suicide is very uncommon in my society so I think no matter what I do, my death will end up being publicized.

I don't necessarily want my parents to find my body, but I don't really think I have a choice.

Apparently in shark-infested waters :ohhhh:

I didn't realise there would be sharks here, but I should have known or at least checked having been a scuba diver. Thankfully, they're black tips so they shouldn't pose any risk.

Well I'm currently literally cruising for somewhere that isn't home right now. Not at home for the reasons mentioned and I don't want to damage people further by being at home, one someone who did this at their parents when I was younger and wondered if they actually hated them. Also what are the odds of someone putting out on social media? Not for sure, but would be for sure someone you care about sees you if you are at home.

we should start organizing little campouts and conventions, like the boyscout jamboree. Every few months, meet up to do a group thing. That way all of our individual stories will be forgotten within the hoopla of "group of people ctb" coverage.
Also media usually minimizes details given in the event of a group or pact because they know it encourages copycats.
Just a little hotel convention a few times a year with seminars on "how to keep from pulling the bag off your head 101", lol. Vendors of supplies. Like Comic Con, but where a bunch of people ctb.
(I am not really saying we should do this. We don't have enough people.)

That's beautiful.

For me, hotel room or car depending on the method. Out of my town though for the sake of my family. Also so I don't feel so nostalgic

Sorry Lorenz but there's not much chance of that ending successfully. Psych meds are manufactured in a way to not be useful exits.

Sorry again.

In my bed, ideally, but I really like Lorenz' idea of watching the sunset. Maybe smoking a cig (I quit 10 yrs ago but have been having cravings lately). I guess it depends on the method I end up using.

My first [and so nearly successful] attempt was spontaneous and at home. I was found by my partner and neighbour [who revived me] and came round in hospital a week later. The trauma that inflicted on someone I profess to love was something I cannot forgive myself for. She deserves better than that. So next time I will be far from anywhere and hope that I am not found for a very very long time.

I don't wish to inflict additional pain to anyone connected to me, its why I am here, to try and be as close to 100% certain as I can be that I will get it right.
