OP, I'm not an expert on this topic, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't take meds. I never been to therapy as an adult.
I think things work based on the effort you put into them,
Your healthcare, whether physical or mental, should be a two-way conversation between your doctor and you. You should educate yourself as much as possible. Don't put your fate completely in someone else's hands. If you doctor cannot handle questions, then you probably need to find a new one.
What I learned from my SS friends is that you have to try numerous medications/combinations until you find one that works for you. You can even ask AI/LLM to give you a list of common medications for your problem, along with any additional relevant information in the same query. Keeping a diary or log that identifies your stressors, mood/well-being, hours slept, weight, and etc. would be great while taking different medications.
As for therapy, try to break it down into logical steps. First, identify the problem. Second, understand why the problem happened and maybe make peace with it if possible. Last, identify how this problem can come up again and come up with healthy self-defense and coping mechanisms. That diary or log from the previous step would be great diagnostic information for a therapist.
I know, easier said than done. Sorry if it sounds like I am underestimating anyone's personal problems on this forum. Not my intention.
