Discussion What's your very specific talent/ability/quality?

When I was young, I was obsessed with animals and becoming a vet so I kept reading books about cats and dogs, to the point where I can name and recognize hundreds of breeds of them both. Sadly that's a completely useless ability

Do you have any other very specific and mostly useless talents/abilities/qualities? I think these small things are what make people interesting.

I am a facial contortionist.

I can wiggle my ears, raise either eyebrow alone or rapidly alternate back and forth, wiggle my nostrils, diagonally stretch my lips in either direction, curl my tongue, and do this thing where I suck in and blow out my bottom lip really fast like a machine gun, only it sounds more like, I don't know, like a balloon sound than a gun, or if I had a microphone, it would probably sound like a helicopter rotor and war vets would go diving under their chairs for cover.

I cannot flip my eyelids inside out, that hurts.

I can also clog. Not Irish clogging, but country western. It's done with tap shoes but the heel screws are loosened so it's loud and there's more stomping than traditional tap. I haven't performed in decades, but once you know how, it's something you never forget how to do. I can even kick up my heels to the side and click them.

I'd be surprised, after reading all this, if anyone can sufficiently shake off being so stunned by my sheer awesomeness to ever post again. I probably should have just picked one skill set or the other. I'm sorry.

I'm a mnemonist, I can remember and recall extremely long lists of random information. For example, give me a list of five hundred random numbers and ten minutes and I'll read them back to you from memory.

I've also adapted the techniques for my own purposes to assist in self-directed therapy - my 'happy memory palace' that I've described elsewhere is one example of that.

Does having a massive pain tolerance count? My family have learned that if I actually seem to be in serious pain, it's ambulance time.

I used to be able to draw/paint and I actually have an art qualification, which is pretty rare with people with my condition, but I haven't practiced in a VERY long time.

I don't know if I can still sing. I'd probably pass out if I tried.

The only thing that comes to mind is being able to pick up languages pretty quickly...speaking three and if I was to practice more probably four.

Try putting everything in a sandwich, that works too. Noodles make good sandwiches. So do bananas. Cake does too, but only if you use brioche.

My stepdad breaks the spaghetti in half before he puts it in the pot.

I crumble my noodles before putting them in the pot, this makes them small and not hang from my mouth.

Also used to eat pizza with knife and fork. Not anymore know I tear the pizza with my fingers into bite size pieces.

I used to do that to my ramen noodle package when I was a kid. I also used to dip my french fries in my milkshake too.

Funny enough I took my nieces tenpin bowling about 15 years ago and I bounced the ball and hit a strike so I looked at other people and saw them crouch and roll it so I copied them and hit about 8 strikes one after another, anyway that was my first and last time playing it.

I would say that I have imagination, at 11 I had a small book written (with their respective grammatical mistakes due to their age) and at 14 I finished the last of 80 pages (word size) that would end up being a book of 200 pages. I've been writing a D&D campaign from 0, characters, geography, weapons, enemies, history, geography... etc (10k word approx for now). I do it to entertain myself because it will never be played. I would also say that I have an inhaled ability to skate.

I think I can taste food by looking at it. All I know is I haven't been wrong yet and the rest im not 100% sure about because I don't like it.

I can't think of anything for myself at the moment, but I really enjoyed reading this thread. Hope people keep adding to it
