This sounds like a silly question but I will explain. I feel like this is a good place to vent without being forced in the mental hospital, but I'm not sure where to put my vents or if they'll be annoying to others. Also, I know there is a recovery section here. I have phases where I want to recover and phases where I don't, and where I put the vent posts influence whatever feedback I'll get on them. Like sometimes I want to be talked out of suicide, I know it is my choice in the end and nobody can force me to do anything but when I'm in a recovery mood it's comforting to be talked out of it. So then should some of them go in the recovery section? But I feel like if I'm talking about suicide it should stay in the suicide discussion forum. Anyways not sure, somebody let me know. Sorry, I'm new here.

Welcome, unfortunately.

The "rules" on this are lax (read: nearly nonexistent). Really it mostly matters what your mindset is, as you say. I've requested a thread moved out of the main suicide forum that both didn't seem to have anything to do with suicide and this was confirmed by the poster; it was denied.

Just don't talk about how great life is in the main forum if you don't want to be lambasted. Honestly that's about it.

I'd say- go for vents in both camps! Cover both options. If you want to vent frequently, then a kind of diary thread with all your posts on is often more prefered than creating multiple threads a day. But, I doubt anyone would have an issue with having a venting thread both here and in recovery. You could even explain your reasoning in the first posts on each.

There are a few venting diary threads in the 'Private' section of the main forum- if you wanted it to be slightly more private- for members eyes only. There are lots of diary threads in 'The Sactuary' but, you need a number of posts over a period of time to gain access there.

People are fairly understanding though. We've likely all posted in the wrong area at some point. Mods can move it if they feel the need but, I doubt anyone would object to what you are proposing.

As to not wanting people to feel forced to read- I don't tend to worry too much. Unless you're creating multiple posts and filling up the first few pages of each forum, people can always just skip a post if they don't feel up to reading a vent or, anything else. No one is being forced to read anything.

I hope it helps to get your venting out and, I hope you get some helpful feedback.

I would make a thread but I feel like nobody would see it then, and if people don't see it it's basically the same as writing in a diary which hasn't helped me nearly as much.

Don't worry, if life was great I wouldn't even be here.
