Just had a 20 minute consult with a locum GP. I told her I feel suicidal and I don't feel there's a way out of this depression anymore. She said she doesn't know how to deal with this so have given me what I'd call ' a token ' prescription of an increase in my Quetiapine from 300mg to 325mg for a week. Then my usual doctor will phone me ....

IN 5 days???

I could be dead by then.

twats.

I know what you mean, people in the medical profession are so unsympathetic. I have dealt with enough of them to last a lifetime. In many cases they just prescribe medication so they can get rid of the patient quickly. I wish you well.

Yes. Exactly! Felt like she put 25mg as a way to be seen to of done something, if I do ctb after that call. Saving their ass I think it's called

Just wondering, what were you expecting them to respond? Like when I go in and I say the same thing, I hope they would say, "I'm sorry you feel this way and that there is nothing we can do to help, I hope you find your peace whether in recovery or death, but I also feel that these sessions aren't helping you at all. I have a .45 and a several bullets in the glovebox of my car, you can take it round the corner and spend some time with it."

or "we fucked up so badly and that's why you feel how you feel. We bear you to feel suicidal too easily. We feel remorse and mercy. Have a good death on us so we'll never fail you again"

Honestly I don't know, but at least my family can't say I didn't reach out. Because that's all I have been doing for months

Everyone tells you to reach out, then when you reach out they say they can't do anything and what do you expect them to do. Hmm.

so sick of these "professionals" with no clue what they're doing, they've given me "emergency" referrals that took weeks, and i've literally been sent home from hospitals hours after ctb attempts, still suicidal just with a new prescription and left feeling even worse than before. idk how anybody in this field can send somebody home in such a state, such a disgrace

Validate my concerns, validate that I do want to die, and then let me go without calling the police on me. Or talk openly about suicide to me like on SS.

Sadly every single one of them says that. They're in the business of preserving life. If you visit a mortician and got some advice from them, they may give you a bit more realism.

It's pointless. Just a waste of time.

Well, it might work for some people but just read the experiences of most of the members on SS. Asking for help to normal people or professionals doesn't work.

You've all helped me much more than the 10 different therapists I've seen throughout my life!!

Thank you!!

The response I would wish for is compassion and the offer to help with coming up with a plan to get through the next 5 days.

Really troubles me that a GP is effectively saying that they can't deal with you and palming you off with pills.

'Not sure' how to deal with a condition- whether that be physical or mental is at least honest and kind of understandable- I imagine they are trained across the board on health issues rather than being experts on every single thing- but that's why they should refer you to a specialist who can help! They would do that if it was something physically life threatening... This is something mentally life threatening! This can't be the first time they have encountered someone with severe depression.

I only hope your own doctor has more interest but yeah- you'll get a call in 5 days doesn't sound very supportive. I hope that you can hold on till then and that your doctor does help. I don't know if there are any help lines you could ring until then if things get really bad? Don't know if they really help but at least they ought to be more equipped to listen and maybe advise. I wish you well.

Just seen the original post was made in 2021 and the users name is crossed through. Does that mean they are no longer with us? That's so sad.

While I believe that suicide should be an option for everyone, it's heart breaking to see that some people are really trying to get better but just can't seem to get the support they need- so do it as a last resort. I hope they found peace wherever they are.
