Something that restored your faith in human nature... I've gone for a kindness from a stranger because presumably, they had nothing to gain back.

The nicest thing I can think of was- I must have been 19 or 20 and going to meet my Dad in London. I put a note in the ticket machine for the train and it just seemed to swallow my money and give me no ticket. It was getting near the time for the train to arrive so, I was feeling quite distraught and a guy in the queue offered to buy me another ticket. I thought that was so kind. As it turned out, another woman in the queue was more sensible and saw that another shitty person had put chewing gum over where the rejected notes come out from. So, it was like the best people and some of the worst people were all out that day.

How about you? Have you got any good samaritan stories to share? Maybe you are the good samaritan?

was at a cinema on my own. incredibly nervous, since it was my first time that i had booked tickets and gone to a movie by myself. receptionist said that popcorn was card-only, and i had brought cash instead. he was nice enough to give me popcorn for free, since he probably saw how visibly nervous i was and felt sorry for me. that act of kindness made me feel good for a time, but no longer

A drunk guy at a train station walked up to me, and instead of the expected haressment he smiled kindly and told me my smile lit up the entire space, brightning everyones day, and to never let others take that away from me.

Dunno why but the memory has always stuck with me. He didn't say anything else and walked off again.
The compliment has never left my heart even if the smile has.

I was once riding my bike home when my chain came undone. Because I didn't know how to fix it, I started walking it back (my house was about a mile away- not a fun time). However, one guy noticed what I was doing, and helped me fix my bike, no questions asked. I truly am grateful for people like that. Makes me want to be a better person.

Not that long ago I ended up feeling nauseous and vomited while waiting for the bus. This nice man came along and asked me if I was okay and gave me $20 to buy anything I needed. It was an incredibly sweet gesture.

I was around 17 in highschool, going up the stairs. My shoelaces were untied but I couldn't tie them back because I was holding food in my hands that I didn't want to place down on the dirty floor. A girl I didn't know told me "your shoe laces are untied" I said, "thanks, I know, I'll take care of it once I go to class"

Without skipping a bit, she bent down and tied my shoelaces right there on the stairs.

Still warms my heart. Bless her wherever she is.

A few years ago, my best friend asked about birthdays, and I told them that I always mentally struggled on my birthday, and that it was my least favorite day of the year. We had a pretty big timezone gap, so I was surprised that 8am on my birthday I woke up to a supportive message asking if I wanted to talk today, because they remembered me saying how much I struggle on that day. It was actually nice to be not be scared and anxious on my birthday for once.

In my hobby, I have met many kind people. But two moments stick out. One time, my dad totally forgot his admission fee and his credit card, I thought I'd politely explain the situation to the people there, and they let him in for free, no questions, I asked if they had a paypal or anything, but they refused. They were adamant on letting him in. Another time was when I watched a sport game at a really low level, I was one of 40 or so people there, and they treated me like a king, free pin badge, free drink.

At work people are really nice though I don't talk with them at all so they're complete strangers to me and don't owe me anything. When my ID card was about to expire someone at work used their connections to the ministry office that renews IDs to have an appointment with me and then they let me right at that moment to cut short the work day and go renew it. It was really kind of them to do that.

Hmm, probably the time I tripped and fell on the sidewalk and someone gave me some first aid supplies. I'm from a big city and people will generally ignore others because everyone is so busy doing their own thing.

When I was 17 I was training as an electrician and needed some overalls/boots/hardhat for the workshop at college. Found a place in a town near me that sold it all so I got the bus there. Bear in mind this was before smartphones were a thing, the place had moved and I only had the old address.
I asked a woman on the high street if she had heard of it, she told me where it was and even gave me a lift in her car to the place.
I offered her some money for her trouble but she refused and just said she was a Jehovah's Witness and simply asked I not slam the door in their faces or be rude if they ever called.
I'm a dyed in the wool atheist but I've always had time for the JW, they are genuinely nice people, and from what they have told me the other branches of Christianity kind of treat them like shit despite preaching love and tolerance.
Yes I don't share their beliefs but compared to the rest of Christianity they seem to be some of the only decent ones.

When I was 15 or so I was buying a birthday gift for my mother. It was this teapot that I had looked at for quite some time, think I had saved up for it. When I got to the register, I noticed I was 10 kronor short. The lady who was behind me gave me the money, probably just because she wanted the line to move faster but still.

back when i'd get shit faced alone in public would have people go out of their way to help me at times. the most memorable times was when i had this girl with her bf who was just a little bit older then me, cancel on going out with their friends and go 40m to drop me off home because i was wasted in public and they didnt want to leave me like that. had a guy also buy me pizza and walk me home. had another guy help me in his home, cover me with a blanket and pamper me, and let me sleep at his house until the morning came and i'd sober up

They only had one chicken fillet left which was reserved for somebody who ordered before me and said that it'd take 20 minutes for new chicken fillets to be available. I said to them that I can't wait that long as I have to go to a university exam so I'll buy from somewhere else but then the guy who ordered before me told them to give his chicken fillet to me and that he'll wait the 20 minutes for a new one. I managed to eat well before the university exam and I did well in it too.

I don't understand why he offered to give his chicken fillet to me. It makes no sense to me. There was no benefit in doing so. I thought that people only helped others for their own benefit but, in this case, I can't think of any way that would benefit him. Does anybody have any theories as to why he helped me like that because I can't think of why myself nor do I want to acknowledge that some people help each other selflessly

I think sometimes it's because we know what it's like to be in the other person's shoes. Who hasn't had the experience of running late for something important? Maybe he knew he had the 20 mins to spare- more than you did. I think some people are actually nice! They don't like seeing others in distress so, if they can help them, they will. Plus, I think part of it is a hope that karma is real. That if we help others, maybe others will do the same when we need help. Or, just a general belief that we all need to help each other more for society to feel like a nicer place.

When I moved country, I needed to find a place to rent. I went for a viewing and said I'd take it, the landlady then requested me to transfer her X amount to reserve the flat so she knew I was serious and she could cancel other viewings. This was on a Friday and I only had my European bank account that would take 1 business day to transfer the money so she wouldn't get it until Monday. She needed the money on that day and I was stressing out because I couldn't make it go faster. She then asked me if I had any cash with me. I did and she accepted the £50 I had on hand and receiving the remainder on Monday.

I appreciated she trusting me. I wish I had more nice encounters like that but all my life I've been the one helping others.

One stranger told me I should go kill myself and die after I took their parking spot (truly on accident). I secretly was thinking, "Yeah, I wish. Trust me bro." It was unknowingly a kind gesture for them to say even though they meant it as an insult/to be rude. It was very sweet in my mind at least.

It's not much, but I always appreciate when people are simply polite, it goes a long way for me

Some time ago I used to always get shitfaced drunk when going out to drink, and the amount of strangers who would check up on me, offer me food, water, or just a cigarette, always warms my heart a bit.

This one doesn't really count as it was more of an exchange, but it made my day at the time; I was at event and went to get a beer, the girl at the stand needed a tampon so I gave her one, and she gave me two extra beers as a thank you

I also have to mention all the users on support forums (Including this one) who do offer me emotional support and suggestions when I'm in need
