Is this a trick question? Um no they'll likely never get read, seriously Congress? Look at how people with mental illness have been treated they're discarded by a society that doesn't want or care about them. If you're looking for pity or sympathy from the US government then you're in for some serious disappointment. It's not worth the effort, there's a better chance proving that the earth is flat then getting the US governmnt to actually show any semblance of humanity.

That I'm not quite sure of but I assume more than likely not. Maybe you'll catch their eye if you write it professionally with reasons good enough to support your position.

On the other hand, with everything going on right now they probably wouldn't anyway. I think that if you wanted to do this, you should wait it out a little until this is all over. I'm not from the US so I also however am unsure of how your government is. Just assumptions.

In the US, if a person feels strongly about a subject or a cause, they absolutely should correspond with their representative. That's their fucking job.

Is it a 'waste of time'? Well, if it makes a person feel better or empowered to advocate for their cause, that doesn't seem wasteful to me. So many people suffer in silence or feel unheard. I'm not sarcastic when I say dumping on an elected representative is at least a start.

However, understanding that most of the folks in US government are corrupt as fuck can help manage expectations.
