I lost my brakes, even the emergency going down a steep grade in the mountains in a 18 wheeler hauling hot asphalt doing 60mph, at the end of it was a damn stoplight with about 50 cars, all I could do is blow the horn and make a hairpin turn at the bottom of the grade, I was sure I was about to die, somehow the truck managed to stay upright and coasted to a stop as the turnoff was uphill.

I once gave $3 to a homeless person. I didn't tell my best friend from high school I hated him. (I ghosted him instead)

Damn this is depressing.

i've been very rude to one of my classmates (she was the girl i liked at the time, actually), it was unintentional but it didn't change the fact she bursted into tears right in front of me.
i felt awful, later i apologized and she said it was fine but i still felt bad, honestly i deserved a slap in the face.
back home, i went directly to the mall, bought the ingredients and then made her favourite cake (a red velvet).
never made or ate it before so i wasn't sure about the outcome, but honestly her reaction the next day was priceless to say the least.

on the bright side you have a lot room left for improvement

btw i think in the end people who help others profit the most of it so even "selfish" people should be motivated to help other people

That's hard. I'm not a usually charitable person.

I don't know if this counts, but I pay for my parent's health insurance. Oh, and once I gave a girl $15K to pay for her college tuition. She'd have dropped out otherwise.

That's it. I'm not a good person...

actually i think that is very impressive and "alpha" .. at least with your parents...you can be proud of yourself

the girl ...i dont know... probably very generous but maybe also at the edge of being stupid (from my persoective)

depends in which relationship you are

Saved two girls from potentially getting raped (Somewhat). Backstory is that I was friends with them and went to a skating rink and they were drugged up and kept going in and out consciousness. Nothing specially happens after a couple of hours until everyone leaves. Pretty boring and a hassle to help but I kept at it and helped remove their skates. As I was returning the skates I saw they were passed out and 2 big guys I knew from school kept trying to touch them and convince them to go home with them. I immediately went over but scared shitless. They asked if I was hanging out with the girls and I said yes but they couldn't believe I was with them so they vigorously tried to convince the girls to hitch a ride with them. I said something like their moms are going to come pick them up, but they kept at it. I eventually became blunt after one guy touched one of the girls arms and I said they weren't in any condition to go anywhere. They still persisted until that same girl threw up on my shoes and the other guys. They were like whatever and cooled down after that. I was pissed but I kept trying to help. I called their moms to pick them up waited there 30 minutes, said our goodbyes. Blah blah blah. And as soon as they got in the car they were like 'we had such a great time see ya later' didn't even know what happened. I brushed it off until I asked for a ride home and they just drove off. Didn't even get a thank you and they chose to never to talk to me after that. Gee.

Years ago me and an ex friend of mine potentially saved a man from dying or being really hurt or something (memory is foggy). We went to the park and there was a trailer park right next to it. We were walking through it to get to the park and the man was not doing so well so we ran for help. He was very thankful.

I like this thread, because it made me stop and think about the answer, because one did not immediately come to mind and that made me feel like a shit person.

I used to volunteer with Meals on Wheels –they deliver meals to home-bound, isolated elderly and I'd go do home "social" visits.

My mom had extremely low blood sugar and passed out in front of me on the kitchen floor. I was the only one in the house and I ended up panicking and shoving some sugar down my mom's throat and called 911. When the paramedics arrived she regained consciousness and apparently if I wasn't there and shoved sugar in her mouth she would've died.

This was back when I hated her too, but as fucked up as it was, even in my vindictive head at the time I thought she didn't deserve to die that way.

I was at a bus terminal at 5am, one morning. There was a girl sleeping on the concrete. I gave her my jumper and a towel to be a little warmer sleeping. When she woke up I asked her what she was doing? She replied "I lost my wallet and phone" (the wallet/phone cases) so I bought her a bus ticket home and breakfast and there was a "travellers rest" area I bought her a ticket to go inside and sleep (on a bed) for a few hours until her bus arrived.

I wouldn't say its a really nice thing, just that its the right thing to do in that situation,

I'm not sure. I use to do a lot of nice things.

In 2002 I elected to help this elderly couple deliver newspapers free of charge for a month.

When my friends dad was dying in 2006, I took care of him some. Made sure he had his medication and helped him in his chair (he lost his legs and was dying from diabetes).

I sacraficed a lot to my now ex wife when I was married. She also did a lot of wonderful things for me. We give each other gifts now and then over amazon.

I'm no saint for sure, here are some of the things I did but they are not something like saving the poor in Africa or something of that sort
-Bought chocolate for a hungry girl sitting in the street
-Gave beggars money whilst on vacation in New York City
-Gave a homeless man most of my coffee when I had no money myself
-Gave a friend a place to stay for two nights even though I wasn't friends with her anymore
-Gave someone from my college a large parting gift because she was always so kind to me
-Donated a bunch of stuff to charity for poor people and refugees
-Bought two friends a lot of cookies every day for about two years because we always hung out at their place
-tried to save a bird that had been bitten by a cat by putting it into the shade and giving it water, but it died of shock
-not killing insects that come into my home but putting them outside alive
-being a vegetarian and not eating meat that is from mass factory farming

I am proud of having called out a predator that kept pushing himself (appeared to be in a sexual way but i am unsure) against a schoolgirl on a bus. He was a big guy that was doing it in plain sight. Her (school aged) friends were laughing, perhaps nervously to ease stress. She looked terrified.

All it took was saying "dude, you better cut it out" and he stopped. I'm not big or intimidating at all.

I once gave a kid my old Xbox 360 along with half of my game collection. I felt bad for him because I knew his family lived below the poverty line. Figured he needed the entertainment more than I did.

I also give homeless people my spare change whenever the opportunity arises.

Maybe in another life

I used to volunteer as a listener on a mental health suport site.
Met many people there who needed support, so I helped them by listening to them and befriending them.
Not easy since I wasn't doing that great myself, but I put my issues to the side and tried being there for them all the time.

Had to be there with them on chat listening, comforting them, understanding them and helping them find some good help and letting people around them see how much they are struggling, because they never felt comfortable enough to share with others, so with my help they found a way to open up about their issues and get the right help

Saved many lives doing so.

This another thing was fucked up but I tried getting a girl I had met away from her abusive parents. Looked for a place she could rent and helped her find a job, paid for most things.
All in all it ended up fucking me, her parents accused me of kidnapping her. I don't know if I could trust her either as she wasn't doing things right at the time when it came to legality of all, she did clear up the accusations against me in the police station.
