I tried to search for previous discussions on this but keep getting a server error. If I'm going to ctb in a hotel room, how do I avoid being tracked down via my cell phone? If I leave it on WiFi only will that work? I don't want to be found too early and revived.
Not sure if my method will be SN or N...I know N can take a long time in some cases.

Taking the battery out of the cell phone is the only way I know of. Or not take your cell phone.

What if I take my laptop and use the hotel WiFi? I could use a VPN that way.

All cellphones have a baseband modem that connects to a tower. Even if they cannot locate you with GPS, they can track you via what towers you've connected to while running around your city. Your best practice is by using a device that only has wi-fi capabilities like a tablet or a laptop.

Nope. Power off, battery removed, SIM removed. Note also that you need to do all these things beforehand at a location well away from the hotel, or else if you do it at the hotel it will be logged as your last known location. It's generally easier just to not take your mobile phone with you at all.

If you have a pressing need for internet access at the hotel, such as last-minute support from this forum, then a laptop using wifi and TOR+VPN would be adequate, although probably still not completely foolproof. But then again we're only talking local police here, you're not up against the NSA.
