Am I the only person here that can't listen to music? It brings up too many memories good/bad and it just makes me feel worse. I miss enjoying music, but it's just too painful these days.

That's why I am listening to it. It brings me mostly memories about time, when I was happy, when I loved and so on

It's going on over a year now for me. Have my radio dialed into the most boring/dry news station. It's numbing.. but it's all I can handle.

I enjoy 60s-80s rock, classic and modern metal, and electronica. Currently, my favorite band is Gojira.

I really really love electronic style music. Dance, or inspires a mood. I enjoy the cool sounds, instrumental, beats. The music I like often doesn't have words because I'm more interested in the background sounds lol! I can make up my own feelings about the song and what it means. I do like lyrics but I can do without too.

You're not the only one, it's been well over a year for me too. Music used to be either fun or solace,.Crying my eyes out at listening to nostalgic stuff used to relieve some pressure. Nowadays it hurts more than it heals, I can't stand remembering the better days, barely can cry anymore.

Deathcore, melodic death metal, dark electro, folk/viking metal or other similar fusion genres. Though, I also find almost any Nordic medieval/folk compositions interesting.

Honestly I don't have a specific taste so long as it's good music.

Are there any particular bands you like in those genres? I enjoy In Flames (mostly older stuff), Amon Amarth, Korpiklaani, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Certainly:
Deathcore: AngelMaker, Black Tongue, Avarice, Carnifex, Chelsea Grin, Make Them Suffer, Oceans Red (partially), Thy Art Is Murder (partially), To The Grave
Melodic death metal: Deathstars, Shade Empire, Before The Dawn, Sons Of Aeon, Dark Tranquillity (partially), Children of Bodom
Dark electro: Life Cried, Synapsyche, Euphorbia, Synthattack, Suicide Commando, Seraphim System, Техногенетика (partially)
Folk/viking metal: Skálmöld, Týr, Wintersun, Korpiklaani, Svartsot
Other: Powerwolf, Disturbed (partially), Marilyn Manson, Cattle Decapitation, As We Walk, Charon Exkadi, The Enigma TNG, Moth, Code: Pandorum, Faun, Corvus Corax, SIG:AR:TYR, Krauka, Voces Thules, Sverrir Guðjónsson, Islandica
In Flames are indeed an interesting band, but I like only a few of their lyrics.
I always failed to type "Korpiklaani" properly when I had beer or vodka and wished to find the corresponding compositions, by the way.

I listen to Stratovarius. Some of their songs are very uplifting and get me through the day and can help me feel okay. I think it's kind of weird though that I'll literally be planning my suicide while listening to music with lyrics like "I raise my head and find my own way out of the dark". That's some nice irony.

This entirely. I love what goes on in my brain when listening to electronic music and how it feels to dance to it.
