Shneidman E wrote the book Autopsy of a Suicidal Mind. In this book, he classifies suicide into four classes,
Death Seeker, Death Initiator, Death Ignorer, Death Darer.


1. Death Seeker

- They have the certain intention to end their life.
- They crave to be dead with the methods which guarantee the rapid or definite death.
- They prefer to guns, jumping. But the author consider their desire as a temporary thing.

2. Death Initiator

- These cases are reported among the old, terminal patients more, relatively.
- They think that they were already dead. Like Death Seeker, they have the certain intention to end their life.
- They consider CTB as a method to advance the date of their certain death.

3. Death Ignorer

- These cases are reported among young children, believers in various religious cults more, relatively.
- They believe they can change their conditions with CTB, or think there is the better afterlife.
- But the author tells the reader, that they never know or consider the aftermath of their death.

4. Death Darer

- They are ambivalent to their life and death to the end. At least, they have not an intention to end their life certainly.
- They are tend to choose the method in which has the risk of their death.
But they are not tend to choose the method which guarantees the certain death. So they prefer to overdosing, poisoning, freezing.
- Then, sometimes, they had sent their letter, message before CTB or on the progress of CTB, and rescued barely.

2 and 4. Leaning towards 2. 4 because giving off prized possessions the last time alarmed my family so I wasn't able to ctb.

I'm leaning towards 2 because of this one. Due to my fear of death I want to be in control of it and by default I guess would mean I want to advance the date.

I've been like this for about 5 years, so not temporary at all...

I alternate between 1 and 4. Today I'm a 4, but some days where my suicidal thoughts are high, I'm a 1.

With some hesitancy, I voted for Death Initiator. I guess that my resistance comes from something called Impostor Syndrome, where I am telling myself that I am not truly any kind of suicidal until I am actually dead. I have similar invalidating thoughts about my illnesses ("I am not really sick because it hasn't killed me"), but that is another topic. Despite my death not being reasonably foreseeable in the traditional sense, I really resonated with the "they think that they were already dead" in the description. My mind is already dead because I do not have ikigai or a raison d'être and so I am waiting for my body to follow. I'd rather not have to wait another 50~60 years for this to happen.

Currently I'm a death initiator. When I have episodes of actual energy, I can be a death dater or a death seeker, depending on the amount of motivation I'm given.

I'd say a form of 2 as physically I'm fine but I recognise eventually I will end my life so might as well speed it up instead of prolonging the mundane state of existence
