I am seeing this sodium nitrite that I can buy on ebay.

It says:

Sodium Nitrite (NaNO2) (E250) FOOD GRADE - For Meat Curing. In sizes: 250g/500g/2.5kg/5kg.

GUARANTEED FOOD GRADE & FULLY TRACEABLE, Certification available on request.

This product should ONLY be used if you know what you're doing.

What does this mean? Is it good enough to suicide on?

Sodium nitrite is used to cure meat, so "food grade" is suitable for that. It's often combined with something that keeps it from clumping; I believe that has no effect on its "off label use" as long as the purity is around 98-99%. Preferably >99%.

I hope that helps.

It doesn't have purity levels written on the posting

Sounds like the one I've just purchased on eBay earlier on.

You should ask the vendor in that case. I got some labelled "minimum 96%", which seemed too iffy to me so I've acquired some 99%.

Hello @Pat Lec. Welcome to the forum (although I'm sorry you felt a need to find us). We don't post sources in public, since it can cause various kinds of trouble; and you need to be here longer and post more posts before we can send you pm's.

Both are good. What matters is the purity.

Oops, I just noticed the date on this. Oh well, maybe it'll help someone else.

NaNO2 is the chemical formula for Sodium Nitrite.
E250 is the European Union "e number" given to approved food additives.
Food Grade tells you that the substance has been made, handled, stored and processed in manners suitable for human consumption, as opposed to being manufactured for industrial purposes, such as a corrosion inhibitor.
