I can't answer that question, I'm just curious why you think that scenario might be an issue. Have there been instances where this method has resulted in failure despite proper execution?

Just depends on your luck. N is pretty neuroprotective and in the medical literature many people who have had "failed" attempts (aka being found) have been cited to have a "full neurological recovery" even with CPR. No guarantees though.
I think the fear of brain damage or whatever is overblown. Like @forevernonescaped said, N is neuro protective. All the literature of people getting saved and surviving even after a week long or two week long coma have made full recoveries.
