Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I am planning to ctb very soon via the inert gas/exit bag method with nitrogen but I am still confused on what type of elastic to use for the exit bag. I currently have my 40 cu. feet nitrogen tank, oven bag for the hood, and the Maxdog Regulator kit will arrive on Tuesday. But, again, I need to know what type of elastic will be feasible in the construction of the exit bag. Any suggestions?

Thank you <3

I would use the kind of elastic that's sometimes in like waterproof jackets with the toggles on, and you can use the toggles to tighten round your neck

EDITED to add pic of what I'm talking about

EDITED again to add:
YaHoGa 25 pcs Cord Locks Spring Toggle Stopper + 10 Yards 1/8 Inch Cord Stretch String for Drawstring, Shoelaces, Clothing, Backpack, Bags (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H1YZZRQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3oQADbQBQ6ETE

Ah, I see. But how would I get the elastic drawstring into the exit bag which is essentially an oven bag? Thank you as well :)

You can fold the bottom of the bag over the elastic and tape it so that it creates a kind of channel for the elastic - there's a video somewhere of someone constructing one - let me see if I can find it
Here ya go:

Thank you very much for the informative video! I think the video and its instructions are pretty straightforward and I think that I am capable of constructing the bag correctly. One more question, can I easily obtain a toggle and drawstring from a retailer like Amazon? I'm choosing them because they offer fast shipping and since I want to ctb very soon, obviously this work out. I already have the correct tape by the way.

I was actually eyeing the elastic you can buy in the craft or sewing section of Walmart. I assumed that it should be snug yet not tight. Possibly velcro over the elastic. The elastic I assume is some you would add to garments like underwear waistband ect. I also figured tape the hose inside the bag. My understanding is that if the regulator flow is right, that the atmosphere will be correct for success.
I am by no means an expert and suggest lots of research. I may be way off base and if I am, please correct my thinking.

Please read my long post from January, guides you through the process:

The only change I've made is that I'm now recommending a different regulator, one that includes a hose barb:

This should work. If it can hold up a fat man's pants, it can hold a lot. Also, WM sells a lot of the stuff so it's likely to be fresh and very stretchy.

As always, check the resource thread for the best ideas.

I'd go with elastic from the craft or sewing stores. But the main thing is not to use an elastic band (rubber band) because they aren't designed to last long-term and are far more likely to break under pressure.

Jacket/sleeping bag toggle (cord lock) is also a good idea.

Agree about folding down and taping the bag to attach the elastic. This diagram is from one of the resources (can't remember which) linked to from the forum:

Suicide bag

I would also make the extra effort to specifically get a large oven (turkey) bag. You wouldn't think it makes a huge difference, but putting one of them over the head they seem to hold their shape better and don't instantly get sucked towards the nose and mouth like a cheaper supermarket carry bag does. Makes a huge difference in feeling more comfortable and less suffocated.

I totally agree. I was planning a Turkey bag and a couple folds and weave the elastic through. Fold some more then tape the seam. I have regulators from my might welder. I just need to verify my gauge settings. I plan to use Argon personally. I won't get to specific and but the thread but the tank or tanks will be in the back of my truck and I will be belted in the seat as to not fall over and knock the bag off or get air somehow.

You couldn't use a tie or something like that, could you?

It would have much less elasticity, need a much bigger channel in the bag and be impossible to pass through the hole in a toggle. I'd say no, at least not ideally.

I underestimated how hard this one step of the process would be

Edit: Would a long phone-charger work?

Hello.

I'm very new here, but before I joined I read this thread in great detail. I have a question, sorry if this has been mentioned before but I have not been able to find the answer for myself..
I'm from the UK and cannot just "buy" an exit bag.. mildly dubious but not entirely opposed to "crafting" said bag, however one of my main concerns regarding suicide is that I will come off in a worse state than I was before; ie- brain damage.

I'm wondering if it were possible to use a medical grade re-breathable fetish mask in place of the exit bag and simply attaching the barb to the end of it's tube?
Here is a picture for the item mentioned in my above post if this helps. Edited (I hope sufficiently enough to meet with the rules). Please ignore the red hood that is separate entirely. This is merely a stock photo from a store, does not belong to myself nor am I in it.

UK...fetish breathing mask...I'm sorry but my mind instantly went to this and this!

And on a serious note, I believe forum posts and/or books in the resources section advise against that kind of mask (albeit medical rather than fetish!) because of them not having a tight enough seal or the potential to knock them off during semi consciousness.

In all seriousness thank you for your reply I was not aware of that.

What is the success rate for these homemade bags?

I'm not sure, but it probably says in the PPH which you can find linked to in the Resources section.
hmmm I put in crying/laughing face emoticons in response to your League of Gentlemen references but they appear to have been removed..! Perhaps we are not allowed to have a sense of humour on here or I'm being a nitwit, either way I thought it was hilarious!!

Lower than hanging and the big boi pills that's for sure. Depends on how you rig it really, if you do it properly without interference, it WILL kill you, were you good at practical science experiments as a kid? Hahaha. Cause if you're not confident in your ability, and you fuck it up, well you're going to fuck it up, and it won't work.

Thanks, I'm fairly proficient in putting things together / taking things apart etc from more of a light engineering/ technical aspect rather than science, figuring things out and finding different ways of doing thing but obviously this is something I need to get right first time.. which is why I need explore every option for this method as it is most desirable/ peaceful etcetera. I cannot obtain lethal drugs but I can get gas, equipment etc but I need the right equipment...

I usually lurk here, but comment when I'm worried someone will potato themselves, because that would be super awful.

If you do go ahead, make sure that the helium, nitrogen or whatever is 100%. You don't want to just deprive yourself of oxygen and come out half brain dead. You can't just buy helium from a party shop for example, that will have too much oxygen mixed in.

Also I'm the sort of person (especially when it comes to crafting) don't wanna say perfectionist as such but I am that focused and determined and fearful of getting something right that I would not allow that to happen. Obviously everyone makes mistakes but to put it bluntly - I am more fearful of coming back a potato than nothing else
*anything
Haha yeah don't worry I'm not gonna cracking up NOS balloons and failing hard! We get delivery service for industrial grade gas and welding equipment where I live. Certainly not taking up this whole situation lightly.

Those masks have kinda safety holes that allow air in just in case patient runs out of oxygen. So the mask is not 100% air tight.
