What does it say about a forum member if he or she has no profile picture/avatar?

Especially if they have an easily interchangeable username like noname. But who is that stupid?

I chose the name because I want to look interchangeable. And I want(ed) to be forgotten after my suicide because I feel so much of a loser. However the more time I have spent here I see my posts equivalent to a very long suicide note. And as long as people bump my old ass threads there is someting that remembers me. I am actually ambialent on wanting to be forgotten.

- The person prefers anonymity - > applies to me

- maybe the person is not that creative

- maybe the person uses the account as a throwaway account

- maybe the person does not care about the social aspect of this forum

- maybe the person is critical of a certain notion of indiduality on the internet

- maybe the person does not consider an avater as a positive example of individuality, maybe it is too superficial -> only judging on the appearance

- some weird form of contrarianism?

- maybe the person barely uses the account (but why are the longterm members with thousands of posts without a picure? -> for me inter alia to make it more difficult to identify me and unnecessary anxiety about copyright etc.)

- maybe the person considers it as a waste of time to change it or simply laziness

What do you think?

All of the reasons you mentioned, plus the interface of this site can be a little tricky sometimes, especially on mobile, which can make adding a profile picture seem like a bit of an unnecessary hassle.

My avatar is a picture I took myself and my username is something that I've always gone by on social media, back when I had social media. I don't really express myself in any kind of "unique" way irl and this is a place where I feel comfortable being myself and saying exactly how I feel.

Figured I'd express myself in a genuine manor while I'm here because why not. I won't be here much longer anyway.

yeah, I was worried about being identified, so I made my username a random string from a random string generator and the pfp a character I've never had a pfp of before! xD Unfortunately, my typing style is very distinct and still very much gives me away! :(

personally, im new here and don't know how to use the site much. also, i hate the way i look, so anything resembling close to an avatar kinda reminds me of how bad i look and my weight insecurities. when im on here i can pretend to just be a stupid mountain

I think that it does not mean anything. If a user has no profile picture then they are either new and do not know how to change it, or they do know how to change it but do not bother or care. It does not affect how a user behaves so it is not an issue for me.

Lol idk, but SaSu is the only social media where I have a profile picture (it's not me though lol). I guess I like to stay anonymous, private and unidentifiable (I don't even use my real/full name for any social media haha), but felt comfortable enough to express myself on here.

In my case, I thought that I should leave my pfp as a default one as I don't have any interests to begin with and there's nothing that I like. I don't really like anything to want to make it resemble me. Then I realised.. actually, there is one thing that I do like. I like the idea of permanent non existence. That's all really hence why my pfp is what it currently is. There's nothing else to me than that. If you try to find out more about me in terms of my personality, you would hit a brick wall as my personality ends here

For myself...well, I am just too ugly to put up a profile photo of myself and I keep forgetting to upload a profile picture of the fictional character I share my username with.

For me my PFP pic was just ripped off from a t-shirt that I really liked and had at one point. But I think people should be able to put whatever or not as long as it

They're new, they like the feeling of anonymity it gives, they don't bother about trivial things like profile pictures or they are so defeated by life they don't have the energy to make the effort.
