What does it mean when someone starts a private chat with me?

I keep getting notifications where it says someone started a private chat with me, but when I click it nothing happens.

I can still click on their profile and start a chat/conversation though so I don't know if I just don't have the permissions yet or something?

It means your account doesn't have access to the chat functionality yet but you should still be able to start conversations

Thank u, that makes sense. Do you know when I'll unlock that feature lol? Also what's the difference between chat and conversation?

I'm not sure what the exact criteria is, all I know you have to be an active user and you'll see it eventually, at least that's how it went for me. Conversation is basically sending and receiving a single message at a time like any old school mailing system on a forum, whereas chat is like your DM, instant messaging.
