Discussion What do you do for a living?

I'm interested to hear because people's jobs tend to (obviously) play quite a major role in their mental health and life in general

I currently work at a pottery/ceramic shop. It's just fine. I have to talk to a lot of people which I am not a fan of but that's really anywhere lol. It doesn't pay much but it's been enough to keep me alive.

I am a loan officer for a credit union. Pay is decent, benefits are incredible. I honestly enjoy what I do and if I weren't so miserable I could see me doing this the rest of my life. Ironically I will be doing it the rest of my life I guess. But anyways it's fine work, it gives me money to leave behind for my loved ones and a life insurance policy that pays out on suicide after 2 years (which is soon).

I left a career in an art-related field to go back to university and change careers. These days I mostly do the odd tech-related job — pays well and doesn't take up much time, but it's not a full-time thing or even part time, so I can make good money today and then not have anything worthwhile for a month or two. I don't need much, though, so I can usually manage my money well enough to carry me through until the next job. Not particularly profitable, but it covers my expenses and allows me to dedicate most of my time to studying.

I work with criminals who have committed horrific crimes. I took the job initially because I was in desperate need for a job at that time and figured it would be maybe a month at minimum. It's difficult to explain because people appear normal and when you see their charges you are shocked and flabbergasted! It's very interesting. A couple people have shared their dismay for what I do, as they often think of the victims. I just do my job the best I can without being bias and judgemental.

Now I'm gonna feel bad when I go to those shops and strike up a conversation lol. Those shops always have the nicest and pleasant employees. You guys always give the best advice and seem so patient lol.

It's never a boring day lol. Going to work is like playing cat and mouse! You always have to be a step ahead of a seasoned criminal and keep a flat face

you're not wrong. before my injury i was working retail....night shift so not much to say about customers but management? that alone makes me suicidal. yours sounds better haha

Studying at uni what I thought would be my dream degree to give me the career I always dreamed that I thought would make me happy and give me a purpose to live. Instead I feel unhappy and have no interest in continuing to be alive and feel indifference about completing that degree to work that job.
