I have no idea why, but I first read it as "cut the bag". I still keep reading it that way, and I feel silly reading it like that in my head. Anyone else?

Yours all made so much more sense than mine. I posted this hoping to feel better, but now I feel even sillier lol. I blame it on spending way too much time reading about exit bags

I feel silly for thinking people couldn't spell 'kick' - you have nothing to worry about :-)

I think it was always just a polite way of saying "dead". It was always how my grandpa referred to dying, and he never meant suicide by it.

I didn't know and didn't guess, but I assumed it may have something to do with suicide. After reading it, and finding out I was still perplexed, but then it made sense that it was jargon for suicide and the explanation made sense logically. Catch means to attempt and bus means death, thus it means attempt to get death.

I kept reading it as cbt and wincing every few minutes.
Afterwards I thought it's something akin to SN.

I knew it was suicide, but I had no idea what the acronym stood for, until someone spelled out "catch the bus" in a post. I felt enlightened :D

That saying originated from the A.S.H. community which in the beginning belonged in the Alts (the 8th one specifically), rarely anybody preferred to talk about it since the topics were controversial and dark. One user once questioned the reasoning behind high rates of suicide on holidays thus begun the Usenet newsgroup (unmoderated) alt.suicide.holiday where soonly after people started sharing methods, support, pro-choice views...etc. (besides, exist other terminologies such as "ticket" - to have all the tools ready for a successful death; "Sorry you are here" - the usual greeting; "bus stop" - the place where you decide to continue with this decision/rather the opposite or simply preparing the necessities to reach the end; had it´s roots from there too although not so many utilize the latter these days). The alt.suicide.bus.stop has been derived from ash, on dalnet there is a chatroom (quite deserted), one exists in google groups although wouldn´t recommend visiting since it became infested with trolls and pro-lifers plus others although not sure if they still exist since I do not speak German.
A little bit of internet history haha

Same for me with the phrase "N from A"
Though I obviously realised A was Amazon quite quickly

I'm not sure how I found out anymore … I know it was on the old S.S. on Reddit.
I don't think I asked but maybe read someone else's question on there. ;)

I have heard that one before also but I didn't think of that one either.
