I've been taking citalopram for the past 4 months.
So far my experience has been relatively good, aside from a few issues mainly due to my reaction to such a fast change in my mood.
I am afraid though as for what I should expect continuing taking citalopram, will I reach a "cap" for my mood above which I won't go?
What are the most common side effects you had?
What happens if I stop taking it?

If you go cold turkey (stop suddenly) you are likely to worsen your mental state by quite a bit. It did for me every time. I can only advise to taper off slowly (as with any ssri and most other meds basically) headaches where also prone when quitting though these where not severe.

As far as the "cap" goes i'd imagine you would have reached it already. In any case it's best to ask your doctor who prescribed you the med about that.

If i recall correctly there is a thread about citalopram somewhere. You may be able to find more answers there.

Will I have to keep taking it my entire life just to maintain the mood I have now, which isn't that great already?

I honestly can't say. There's way too many variables that are all specific to the person taking them. It's best to talk to your doctor about it.

I've typed citalopram in the search bar and multiple threads came up. Have a look in those threads to learn more about people's experiences with it.

I take 40mg daily and it helps slightly. It depends alot on the severity of your depression. I've been in a continous depressive state so it only just made things a little managleable. But I remember when I wasn't taking it I would constantly cry or refuse to do simple activities. It numbs me kinda
