I'm curious what people have been watching lately and why.

I've been enjoying a couple series that are available on Netflix that help me escape my thoughts for a bit. One is a drama titled Doctor Foster. As usual the BBC has excellent programming, and this show is no different. If you've ever been affected by infidelity and/or total betrayal by a most trusted loved one, you may relate well to this.

The other series I've been enjoying also appears to be British. It's called Sick Note and it's just good humor surrounding the bizarre nature of life, death and human relationships.

I'll have to check out Grand Hotel. I don't think I've heard of it.

Sick Note is great for taking my mind off of heavier things.

I'm borderline obsessed with the soundtrack of the entire Narcos series! I haven't gotten into Mexico yet, but it's on my list. Pretty much the only list I care about anymore. And I loved me some lists!

Oh good thread @Baltic Orchid!!

I recently finished watching Nirvanna the Band the Show. It's this really obscure but hilarious Canadian docu-fiction TV series about two friends who are trying to book a show at the Toronto music venue, the Rivoli. Curiously, it's based off of an even more obscure web series by the same duo. There are two seasons out there but they're hard to get a hold of outside of Canada, Dailymotion, and torrents.

Here's the first episode:

Nothing, i've overloaded on tv/movies. If I watch something, it has to be a bleak dark storyline, can't do mainstream comedy/romance/drama shit at all. I watch endless youtube videos, read/scan forums and watch sports (mma, hockey, & skateboarding).

I mostly stick to horror films, lately I've been sludging through all the Halloween movies. Also watching Mandy in 30min intervals but the whole thing feels like a horrible fever dream when stoned so it's slow going.

I watch a lot of smithsonian or national geo documentaries about plane crashes.

Also DMT podcasts/ted/npr, will read the book by Pollan soon. Am curious about the link between DMT and death (if any) because I am scared of the dying process.

Old Julia Child episodes are calming.

Unabomber series on Netflix was incredible (please don't report me to FBI,
I am only a danger to myself)...lol
Seriously underrated series which compelled me to actually read his manifesto which I had dismissed as insane back in 1996. Not sure why he resorted to murder but the man makes some woke points in his manifesto. Sad story all around.

Thank you! Yes, anything serial killer related, and it's on my listed or watched already. Brief works well for me now too, as I notice I am pausing most thins 1 to 3 minutes in on the do or look at something else.

This Christmas, I'd like to ask Santa for a mind that doesn't torture me. As well as minds that don't torture anyone else.

Oxygen's Snapped is a series you may enjoy if you haven't seen it already.

That is spectacularly sad. I'm more like feeling a perpetual downward spiral regarding, health, home, money, my future...the world's future. It's overwhelming.

Thank you. And thanks for this epidsode. Canadians and your hilarious comedies! I have never seen this.

Trailer Park Boys and anything Mike Myers are hilarious to me. And Schitt's Creek which I understand is a partnership between Netflix and a Canadian television production group is laugh out loud funny to me. I wish the seasons came out twice as fast they do.

I either watch people gaming on Twitch or watch TV series. These days I'm watching Supernatural, Charmed, Z Nation, Criminal Minds, SVU, etc. Film-wise I love Sci-Fi and the Marvel movies. Infinity Wars is one of my favourites.

I was getting a little too much into that world. I'm glad I got out when I did.

The first season of Ozark, I wasn't sure what I was thinking about it. The second season killed!!! Another series I need to have like at least made a biannual series, please! Do it for the shut ins! ;)

China is already a high tech dystopia like the one portrayed in 1984.

Oh, how I love horror since I was a child. I can't always enjoy it as much as I used to, but still think it's great. Especially classics, like Halloween. I don't think I've seen Mandy. For some reason the name is kinda creepy. I'll check it out.

Good comparison. The US has many similarities to Orwell's works too. When the democrats were giving their congratulatory speeches last month, the same old figureheads in DC, all I saw were pigs in suits at the dinner table.

I used to do the same thing when it was on tv. Then it started on Netflix, where's it's about 19-20 minutes long, no ads and the annoying theme songs cannot be skipped at start or finish of each episode. The phrase "Mitichondrial DNA" is now a trigger lol.

I've recently rediscovered the Smithsonian through their digital work now. It is good!

I've had my DMT experience. Not for me. Although I think it had helped others enormously. Anything that allows you to take a step outside of yourself can be quite empowering.

Julia Child is a lovely woman. I wish I had a Mom like her. My Mom tries, I know, but she's fucking insane. Julia channeled her unique gifts and oddity in such lovely ways. I had pictured myself being able to do the same for myself one day.

The unibomber's violence was abhorrent...and that's what society will always focus on. Few care about what brought him there. A lot of people would like to think they would never be capable of doing anything like him. To those people, I say, you have an overly optimistic view of humanity at best. In reality, I think they just can't touch on the dark stuff, like so many other people who have helped bring us here. The claim one must be a criminal and/or insane to do such things. Perhaps that is the case, or maybe he just got pushed like so many of us, and decided to fight back the only way he knew how.

Are you familiar with Orwell's book Animal Farm? I'm referencing that in my statement regarding pigs in suits around the dinner table. It was also made into a movie that wasn't half bad.

Yeah, I love that book and the movies made based on it.
I hate politics and politicians.
They are always corrupt and don't act in the best interest of the people, which they should always be doing.

I recently watched "Trust" the house of Getty on the BBC, it was a good series. Donald sutherland plays old man Getty, and it's about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III his grandson. Would highly recommend!
Anything Nordic Noir, the original Bridge series is outstanding and many other series/movies are good.
After Fall winter (2011) is a great movie about a suicidal writer who moves to Paris, it is worth checking out.
I can no longer watch Gung ho macho bullshit movies as they are too predictable, same goes for formulaic Hollywood bullshit efforts.
Enjoy science programmes, factual TV and some quiz shows.

These all sound good. I love Donald Southerland's work. Is this Getty as in the Getty instruments?

Nordic Noir is a beautiful phrase. I will be looking into this as well.

Quiz shows are fun! Illness, injury and medication hinders my performance to where frustration seems to win out. I hope I can enjoy those again. I have as many people tell me I'm crazy as I have had tell me that I should go on Jeopardy...not sure how I feel about that lol

I don't know about Getty instruments, at the time it took place Getty was the richest man in the world owing to his oil business. I think that's sold off now and his son/sons have put the money into philanthropy. Getty images, museums etc all come from that.

Ah, ok. I'm not familiar with the oil business and that end of things. I wonder if they're related. I've noted this on my many notes of things to look into.

Philanthropy...how I had hope to spend the later half of my life...if not as a philanthropist, as one who facilitates them would have given me some purpose too. I used to do that as a volunteer. Damn, this is so bittersweet.
