Could become an interesting thread maybe?

I will go first; since I lost my job I finally got around to seriously engaging Schopenhauer and I'm now currently on the last couple pages of "World as Will and Representation".

On the side I'm reading "The Origins of Unhappiness" by David Smail; Smail, who studied philosophy and psychology and worked as a clinical psychologist for a number of decades in the UK, was very critical of the presumptions of psychology and it's role as a societal control mechanism and as a disguise for power structures within the social world, which it ignores and obfuscates but which he seems to regard as crucial in the development of psychological distress. I'm only a third into the book but so far it's been a great read.

Edit: David Smail:

I'm rereading the Nantucket series. I love that type of alt-history, it's just so amazing. It's not quite on the level of 1632, but it's still pretty great.

Ask a mortician I love her YouTube channel.
Its strange because for the subject, her videos are very enjoyable shall I say, hope that doesn't make me sound weird. Its the way she speaks and comes across with her content. I only stumbled upon her recently on YT when looking up vids about grief to try and help me.

She is one of the few YouTubers that really knows their stuff. She has a doctorate and is also really down to earth and funny.
I've learned so much from watching her channel and reading her books.

I'm reading a book titled: Emotional First Aid - Healing Rejection, Guilt, Failure, and other everyday hurts, by Guy Winch. It has some interesting points and what not about dealing with many emotional issues, but overall it does have a pro-lifey spiel to it (not surprising as it is written by a psychologist). :I With that said, it does show some examples of people going through certain issues and what not and how to heal from those negative emotions (Rejection, Loneliness, Loss & Trauma, Guilt, Rumination, Failure, and Low Self-Esteem).

In each of the chapters, it gives the same scripted, boiler message of seeking immediate help or going to the emergency room. :ohhhh::ohh::angry::aw: Yeah because being crippled with these negative emotions aren't enough and sure let's foolishly and willingly give up our rights and freedoms, get the privilege of prisoner-like treatment and then be slapped with a huge medical and hospital bill along with a record which will fuck with our rights and other things in life. That must really make life worth living! /s.

But, I digress...

Im not reading anything now, just finished "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy..Kind of a dark, bloody western set in a bleak, hopeless wasteland. It was pretty good, probably not what you would want to read if you were looking to pick up up your mood or outlook.

I am reading several books right now, I try to read in Dutch, English, German and French frequently.
Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Danish and Swedish are much, much harder and then i constantly need to have the dictionaries on hand, but I do try. Nine languages isn't bad, I suppose.
Currently reading:
The Enemies Of Rome by Philip Matyszak

I am reading several books right now. For research on the novel I am writing (I have completed ~60,000 words of a first draft and am now rewriting the first chapter), I am reading My Darling Mr. Asquith: The Extraordinary Life and Times of Venetia Stanley by Stefan Buczacki and Champion Redoubtable: The Diaries and Letters of Violet Bonham Carter, 1915-1945. For fun, I am reading Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery. (I loved the Anne of Green Gables novels as a girl, but have never before read the Emily of New Moon trilogy. Did you know that Montgomery apparently ctb?) For something in between pleasure and enlightenment, I am reading Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945 by Tony Judt. I am also about to start reading The Imitation of Christ for devotional purposes.

I indulge in Stephen King novels, most recent re-read was "IT". When I'm not reading books I read a metric FUCK TON of Fan Fiction as well. There's some very talented online writers on the internet.

Honestly, I am not very keen on picking up my mood anymore; so thanks for your suggestion ^^.

Neun Sprachen :-0 ... Beneidenswert. Ich wünschte ich könnte zumindest Französisch und Latein oder Altgriechisch (ich verstehe zwar von allem ein bisschen was, aber wirklich lesen kann ich nur Englisch und Deutsch).

Good luck with your novel! Has any of your work been published yet?

For some time now I've tried convincing someone to watch this movie with me; I guess I will have to watch it alone :-(. And 1984 is awesome, I agree. While it isn't exactly very well written, the concepts like double speak and so on stick with you.

Well, some of my poetry translations and an excerpt from a previous novel project were published in the literary journal of my college back in the 1990s. I also wrote some articles in the 1990s for Brazzil.com. But other than that, no. Not really.

I'm currently reading the first Witcher novel by Andrzej Sapkowski. Decided to pick it up on a whim after watching the Netflix series. It's hard to read when I'm depressed, though.

My readings for college. Some are interesting, some are boring as hecc.

Kimetsu no Yaiba manga. I read it from where the first season stopped because I couldn't wait for the second season.

It Devours by the creator of Night Vale. I like it but lately I don't really want to read books for enjoyment these days, dunno why. Probably because games and anime.

I've been trying to get into new wave sci-fi, so right now, I'm reading Stand on Zanzibar. I'm going to read either 100 Years of Solitude, A Canticle for Leibowitz or The Chronicles of Amber when I'm done with that. (Yes, I'm mostly using Extra Credits to inform my choices.) Also, I was reading Dune before I came to college, but I didn't bring it with me because I had already piled up a bit too much luggage.

EDIT: I just remembered The Left Hand of Darkness. Considering the title and what I've heard about the story, that's probably going to be next. Also, I need to read Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang for my Creative Writing class. By tomorrow.
