It seems pretty bleak and hopeless. Not only is Switzerland acting uncivilized, but this seems only likely to be open to terminally ill, or very old, people at first.

0%. We live in a pro suffering world where people would rather have you suffer in existence for as long as possible than die early. At best, euthanasia would only be legalised for the terminally ill (though I hate at how pro lifers can't acknowledge that all of us are terminal) as well as those in old age. This is also only true in some parts of the world. In other parts of the world, the right to die won't be legalised at all, not even for those who are suffering immensely during old age or are terminal

I would personally also be interested in the Destiny Euthanasia Machine (discussed in PPH), as apparently through testing it is believed to be 100% effective and cause peaceful death in 15 seconds. However I doubt this will ever be legally distributed either.

I remember articles saying that the idea behind the sarco is that everyone could make their own in the future using 3d-printing, and they would like give out the the template for free for everyone , but the thing is that 3d-printers are incredibly hard to set up and then printing out the compounds to make a big huge sci-fi-coffin would be even harder.

I still do not understand how exactly would helping another person to print the pod in Switzerland be illegal in any way. If the user pays only for the production itself, then no one is getting enriched by the process, and the user is also making any final choices by themselves only. Both of these fall perfectly withing the current framework of Swiss law. This is also why I do not understand how can the current prosecutors in Switzerland hope to get anywhere with their current case.

Or, the question about the usage of Sarco pod may even end up being part of a Swiss referendum, in which case I somewhat doubt the majority of Swiss citizens would vote against it.

You know, I am no lawyer, but I simply find everything revolving around Sarco perfectly legal in Switzerland at this point.

it's their prejudice and fear of public sentiment, I'd wager.

But the public already voted, at least in one canton, with some overwhelming majority of more than 80 percent to keep the practices of assisted suicide legal as soon as in 2011. More than 70 percent of those voters also agreed to let tourists use the services.

Given that in more than 10 years from then the society would likely only progress, even if a little bit, I see no way for such a referendum or for any public opinion to stop Sarco in the following years. If only 65 percent of the people agreed with it as opposed to 85 or 75, it would still be plenty.

I am not saying you should just be able to walk into one freely in a local park on Sunday afternoon, and you could be required to ask to use one multiple times, but the process should also eliminate doctors appointments, except maybe for a psychiatrist to determine whether you can or cannot make sound judgements. The process should not be ridiculously easy, but should be a lot easier than it is now. I can see the majority of the public in Switzerland get behind something like that.

the level of 3d printer someone would need, even if they did release the info freely, would be massive and not easily accessible.
