This is why I am loathe to ring a helpline however desperate, its either well worn platitudes or they just dont know how to help/advise or even listen and just make you feel even worse. This is my experience in UK, dont know how it is in other Countries. The day I joined SS was a weight off my shoulders at least, cos got like minded people here and proper support and 1st hand knowledge.WTF? That's ridiculous! What is the policy now? "If you need help call us, but if you really need help dont?!" Unbelievable! >:-(
Yeah I'm in the UK too, I was told to call the helplines too, tried it years ago was like been offered a band aid for a severed leg! When they tell me to call them, I say I will but I know I wont. When you are in a crisis being told to treat yourself and go for a walk doesn't quite help. This is why I am loathe to ring a helpline however desperate, its either well worn platitudes or they just dont know how to help/advise or even listen and just make you feel even worse. In some cases of mild depression I think it's good advice. Trying to talk about things can help too. But I know that in my case and likely the same for lots of people here its like a drop in the bucket.Yeah my previous psychiatrist suggested that "some light exercise" was the solution.
Hi Flippy cor what a con trick it all is hey, glad to know wasn't just me who had bad time with UK helplines, although obviously dont want others being fobbed off and not helped. But does make me feel that Britain not much cop when comes to these things, just look at state of NHS and dont lets mention Brexit..................used to be proud to be British but not sure anymore.Yeah I'm in the UK too, I was told to call the helplines too, tried it years ago was like been offered a band aid for a severed leg! Yup, we seem to have a similar experience. I talked to them on the phone and via email. What I mainly got from them was a ton of questions, "why do you feel this"... Basically what I had said spun into a question. It can be helpful to try and question things and gain some insight. But I'm pretty sure they could program a computer to do that. "Hey Siri, I want to catch the bus..."Hi Flippy cor what a con trick it all is hey, glad to know wasn't just me who had bad time with UK helplines, although obviously dont want others being fobbed off and not helped. Oh dear this made me smile what you say, but so true, WHY do they keep on asking WHY all the time? Maybe if they did program Siri, the reply/advice would be alot better. I suppose they feel inadequate cos they cant help us and then comes across as not helping, but it truly is frustrating, that is why I searched and found SS when become so very down in December rather than try the helplines again. I wasn't sure what would be like, but its very helpful having like minded people in similar situations to mull things over with. I guess it puts the the responsibility on the caller to do the work. So maybe they can't be accused of saying the wrong thing. Little chance of that happening if you are effectively having a conversation with yourself via a proxy. I think this site is helping me too, at least I don't feel completely alone. Your Siri quotation made me laugh! I see you've used Siri before :-)Oh dear this made me smile what you say, but so true, WHY do they keep on asking WHY all the time? "Siri I want catch the bus".........." I will find you the timetable!"...............if didn't laugh sometimes you would never stop crying!
I even made a written complaint to them about way the one spoke to me, but it got me nowhere of course.Honestly didn't know they were allowed or able to ban someone. Doesn't seem very good samaritan of them. Maybe try and call the number or write to them? Not sure what you can do really.
Give the citizens advice bureau a call. They're great with things.I even made a written complaint to them about way the one spoke to me, but it got me nowhere of course.
Nice one . I was told :sucks.. I've reached out to Samaritans before and was told to spend some extra money on myself and cheer up. Made me lose any faith in other services and hotlines
