Has anybody tried or considered going into dodgy parts of town, roaming around at night, baiting yourself into a mugging or worse, refusing to comply with an assailant, fighting back, and getting stabbed, shot and killed? Dying by someone else's hand?

The pro of this would be not having to do it yourself, upsetting loved ones, by being in the wrong place at the wrong time; it happens all the time to innocent people every day.

I'm in London, UK and we have currently have a stabbing epidemic where knife crime has been on the rise.

Just curious to hear other people's experiences or thoughts on this kind of method and thinking, if they had tried it in the past, or failed. Obviously there are no guarantees, as with any method.

Thanks.

I'm really biased against these kinds of passive methods because I can't relate well enough to the considerations that motivate a person to want to hide that they suicided enough to risk the suicide failing. I also think getting murdered by someone else is a bad idea if you care about suffering at all, which I do (not least because the less you suffer, the less likely you are to compromise yourself by seeking help from too much pain and desperation).

I will say that the chance is much higher you just get injured, possibly painfully. People pursuing passive methods often think 'I won't get help' but they do because of fear, cold feet, and extended suffering. Also in this case it's really likely to fail because of someone getting you help before you die, and/or it'll be obvious it took you some time to die of your injuries, defeating the purpose. If you just get injured, it'll cause you problems and make it less plausible for you to keep pursuing the method.

It's not reliable - of course, reliable methods aren't abundant for people looking for passive deaths.

I will say that I am substantially and visibly disabled and have lived and walked alone in high crime areas in Australia and some dodgy places in the United States and have actually never been mugged (I know I only represent one data point). It happens to a lot of people, but there are a lot of people. I've definitely seen people talk about this before and nothing happened, though. You might want to look up how often fatalities from mugging happen in your target area... not many places (at least in some countries) where people get outright murdered like that every day.

I will also add that my experience is if you wander around in certain areas and you're suicidal/mentally ill/anything else that might cause you to behave oddly or not fit in, chances are people might just avoid you because they think you're up to something, at best. Not always true and it does attract some people, but still a thing.

Watch out. Your survival instinct might activate. The last time I got robbed at knife point, I was already suicidal. My SI activated without my conscience. I gave away everything in my wallet and bag without hesitation, because my logical mind was literally shutted off.

There was no logic. Only instinct. I couldn't taunt the thief to stab me death even though that was the best thing to do. Because the thought couldn't even cross my mind.

Scary and potentially painful way to die.

Seems painful and certainly violent to me. For those reason I would not do this. Plus you're not garanteed to actually die.

It's an interesting idea none-the-less.
