A lot of people agree on the idea that you shouldn't give up on your life until you've tried everything to make things better, with the most basic and significant step being getting professional help.
I've never gotten any treatment and I never wanted to, so it would sometimes make me feel like my decision to ctb is too irrational.
But then I would remember: "Oh wait, I'm broke".

There's no way to get help when you can barely get some food. People say that with hard work and determination you can be anyone, even if you're born into poverty; but how the fuck are you supposed to do this when illnesses are eating you alive, because your family can only dream about medical help? How are you supposed to get up every day, full of energy, if your skinny body struggles to support itself? How are you supposed to work your way up, if constant depression and anxiety gave you a brain damage?

Poverty isn't an issue that you can eliminate if you just work hard enough. It's an issue that can physically break you down, especially if it gets you right at the moment you're born.

Too many people don't understand this and I'm tired of hearing pseudo-motivational "you can do anything if you work hard" bullshit.

Well said and I fully agree with you. I too, hate pseudo-motivational bullshit platitudes that many people in society spew. They almost do it automatically without thinking and it's like they accepted it as the go to advice. I believe their motivation is more to stroke their ego and be able to brag to their friends, "Yeah, I helped someone who was depressed and down! Look at how I'm a great person!" They don't really give a shit about whether their "advice" helped their recipients and just want to look good, and what's even more frustrating is those people get hostile and defensive if you ever called them out on their "bullshit."

As far as treatment, even if I had the means (money, time, and what not) I'm way past that because I've made the decision that I don't want help and just want this "shitty" life of mine to end. If anything, I'd like to put my money towards better activities, things I enjoy than to waste it on "professional help" that gets nowhere.

This is precisely why I believe health care, education and social care should be free and equal for everyone, no matter how much money they make or how much taxes they pay.

These three things are basic human rights.

I fully agree with everyone. In my personal case I have never been able to seek help even if I wanted to because in Murica everything is tied to having insurance (even having it doesn't make treatments affordable). At 26 get kicked off parents insurance, I can't work to get insurance since all insurance is tied to having a job, yet I don't qualify for financial assistance programs either because I'm not disabled enough and mental problems are overlooked. Also I don't have years and years of doctor documented evidence backing up my disability because I could never afford it. Even if I was able to work I still might not get good insurance because good insurance is tied to having a good job. When I could work working hard got me nowhere.. I can't even get help if I wanted it....just another reason for me to ctb.

It's not perfect but we have the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK which is free (paid for by the taxes of the working) to all. We're lucky.

Unfortunately it's allopathic medicine that is pushed on the population through (NHS) which might as well be called sick care or treat symptoms only care, get u hooked on medications that often are not good for u. But they don't focus on least invasive most natural way to heal and cure u. It's not about prevention, cure, or longevity. It's about we will do the bare minimum to keep u alive until u have outlived your usefulness as tax cattle lol! I guess my standards are too high for what I expect all people to have access to as far as healthcare. Another problem with NHS like in Canada there are long waits for care for something life threatening. NHS is not sustainable long term because there's lots of corruption and it's socialism. The money eventually runs out and the government begins to ration care and access to services. Then people are dying because of long wait times to get care. It does work for a while sort of but eventually it's not sustainable anymore over decades or a few generations.

I could have sworn that you were American, not British. (Or are you the kind of American who thinks they understand how things work in other countries?) American or British, you still don't understand basic political concepts. I recommend you to read a book about basic political theory before you post again.

Dude u don't get it, allopathic medicine destroyed my thyroid when I did not have cancer. I only had a goiter, I did not need my thyroid to be dosed with heavy duty radiation so they could put me on synthetic garbage fake thyroid hormone for life so I can now be poisoned slowly and feel kinda like shit bc it doesn't fully address thyroid issues. Thankfully I'm getting it changed to natural thyroid from a pig. Levothiroxine has toxic shit added. Goiter is often caused by iodine deficiency and flouride in many processed foods, beverages, and fluoridated water. Im not sure if the mercury fillings in my teeth might have even caused my thyroid issue. Many people don't know that many medical things they use are bad for your body because we want to trust that they use safe products on us. Many people develop psychiatric issues from the silver/mercury fillings it has no business inside your mouth. I have other examples of being harmed by the medical establishment, not everything has, but psychiatry especially was harmful and never diagnosed that I have complex ptsd which requires actual therapy not pills to overcome. I would say not treating mental health stuff properly is one of the most dangerous things to a person's life because it impacts u pretty severely if u are not well emotionally mentally. Good luck trying to function.

People outside of Canada get fed propaganda that there are long waits for life-saving care, but that isn't true.
There is one exception: people do die waiting for transplant organs, but our single payer health system isn't to blame for that.
A shortage of donors is.
Yes, there are waits for elective surgery. Example: If you fall and break a hip it is surgically repaired immediately. If you require similar surgery for arthritic hip repair, you will wait 6 months or so, but it's one hundred percent free for anyone. In the US, with insurance, you are out $3000.
$20,000-ish if you don't have insurance.
I like the health care in my country, and I am happy that it is available to all.

I want to, ahem, "bash allopathy" so bad in response to recent comments here, but it will derail the thread. If y'all truly want to keep this particular debate going, someone should start a new thread about it, I'll be there. If not, I'm sure I'll forget all about this by tomorrow as someone else will have already been wrong on the internet and required my immediate intervention and full attention. :pfff:

I totally agree with you.
Health care should be a human right.
I don't know if this applies to you but I am just going to put this out here for anyone who has difficulty going to a job.
You could try work from home freelancing on websites like https://www.upwork.com/.

Yes! Also waiting to see my GP for anything now is three and a half weeks. Three and a half weeks! For an appointment! I have really chronic insomnia and if I don't sleep for a few nights I get all sorts of physical ailments such as diarrhoea with blood, stomach problems, viruses, sore throats etc. That's just the physical ones! The mental and emotional ones are even worse. So I make an appointment and half to wait all that time. By the time my appointment comes around, I'm ok again! So I talk about my GAD to my doctor because I don't want to cancel the appointment after waiting all that time, but my original complaint has eased off a bit and I won't fall physically ill for another 3 weeks! The NHS is good for/at somethings, but is failing dismally at others. Don't get me started on the mental health side of the NHS......which is utter crap! I've been bounced around every system in my area. Now I pay for my counselling, because I was betrayed by a previous NHS counsellor. Long story!
