Today I lost my buddy

My dog lived more than half of my lifetime with me. He was the best. This is gonna be one of the biggest challenges for my recovery.

I knew he was maybe closer, maybe far from dying. I knew too that he was my best friend and that I would want to kill myself. Holy shit this is gonna be tuff

It is still raw since he recently passed, but have you considered finding a dog just like him? I have a dog whose around 12 whose my best friend, sleeps in the bed with me, runs around with me when I go out, the whole schbang, but what I do is keep a second, younger dog, so that he has a friend to keep him company, and so that when he passes, I have the other one to help fill the void, that way even though pain from him passing hurts, I will have another to immediately keep that pain away.

Yes, it is hard to think. When it is older you start to think much about it and feel like you're almost ready. The reality is you're not ready. Thank you!

In my opinion, I don't think the pain won't exist because you have other dog. But ofc having a dog company will help. Although I don't think about having another one. I really can't think about it now. It happened today. And I won't compromise myself with a dog if I know I am suicidal. Now I am wanting to kms so mich, but I need to be here for my mom during this time. We both are suffering with this.

I'm so sorry you lost your buddy. Tell us about him. I lost my cat 20 years ago and I swore I would never feel that pain again. I squash that pain down so that just typing about him makes me cry (I'm an emotional car crash). I don't know how you deal with this but I know there are people on here who give great advice! Seriously though - put up a pic - I'd genuinely like to see your bud.

I'm so so sorry to hear about your loss. I feel for you . Pets are best friends and always give unconditional love which is why we love them so much in return. Grieving process is always hard . People on the site will always listen when it gets too tough and you want to vent/talk .

I'm really sorry for your loss. When I was young, my dog was my best friend too. I still think about him and imagine he's with me when I walk in the woods. Unfortunately, grief is something you have to go through and there is no getting out of it. I wish you strength.

I am doing well till now. I think that to feel him dying made me realise that I cannot do this to my mother too, not now at least. I need to try harder than I already been doing. I am trying to give support to my mother and keep her fine. I miss him. I think knowing he was going to die at some moment is really helping me to go through with this. He was a happy dog, never suffered in life or when he was rly dying. I have been in a bad mood, haven't been the best owner, but always transmitted love, gave hugs and kisses. And always received all of it back. I see the possibility to blame myself, but I'm not doing it. I don't think it is right.

I agree. Guilt nearly always comes with mourning and is usually as a useless emotion.

Quick update: I'm doing fine and still miss him. Mom is doing better too. He was happy, this is the most important. I think this thread comes to an end . Thank you all for the support, it helped me a lot. I hope you all are or will be doing fine. Hugs!
