Fuck you! As Hunter S Thompson once said: "I'd feel utterly trapped if I knew I couldn't commit suicide at any time." It's my life and body, the fact that I did not consent to being born, and I'm not allowed to leave it when I want is an injustice. Save me the "oh you might regret it" bullshit as well. I have prior attempts on record and I did not regret it at all.

My hope is that more countries in the future follow the Netherlands and Belgium's lead by legalizing assisted suicide for severe mental conditions. Such a policy would allow people to be more honest with their wishes, and reduce any trauma to families, while respecting the autonomy of the person.

Totally agree. No one should be forced to live. Our lives, our choices.

No different than men telling women they cannot have an abortion. Why should strangers tell me what I can or cannot do?

I think it's just sick that those who wish to ctb are reduced to having to do it themselves, often with a high risk of failure and injury. If someone has reached the point where they wish to ctb forcing them to research methods and setup everything themselves is just cruel when their life is hard enough already. I hope someday ctb can be a relatively peaceful process that's monitored by professionals who ensure that the person's final moments are as peaceful and painless as possible.

You do see them occasionally. I do get really annoyed when people are about to take their choice and someone pipes up with !why are you cbting?! If it wasn't for the fact it is a goodbye thread I would unleash some interesting choice phrases.

I don't see that many. Just the odd one.
They are here. Oftentimes they say nothing, oftentimes they respond to threads to blend in.

After a while, of reading some threads of a certain person, I can tell if they are legit or not.

I've gotten the understanding they are more "anti-suicide" than "anti-choice" personally. Still, don't they have anything better to do with their time?

What's the difference? (Not asking in a rude tone- I just can't see it)

I think there are definitely people here for reasons that are not the same as the purpose of the board. scammers, perverts patrolling for young vulnerable women and pro-choice types. Just keep hitting that report button whether it is done in public or in private.

Exactly. The reason they do this is because it makes them feel better. They think they are doing good and saving a life, when in fact they are being selfish and making others suffer for their own beliefs. When people make the decision to end their life, it is made with much thought. It's not a decision we make lightly, it took us a while to get here. We all fought so hard to live through the pain and live a normal life, but that wasn't in the cards for us. We tried. And we should have the right to die with dignity instead of living aimlessly through life as a zombie. There is no life left in me and I refuse to live when I am essentially lifeless. Why must we live when we have nothing to live for? I can't even live for myself...

How dare anyone take that away from us. This is not your battle. This is not your life. This is not your choice. You have no idea how a day looks like for each of us. You will never feel or understand the pain or the suffering we have endured to get us to this point. Let us exit the world peacefully.

I had told my doctor to put in a referral for palliative care to discuss EXACTLY what I mean by quality over quantity. The doctor and nurse with the palliative care department agreed with me. People with traumatic brain injuries should have the right to call it quits when the quality of their lives start to suffer. Actually, everyone should be able to say enough and it should break the bank to do it.

I will never be bedridden again. I will never NOT be able to read and comprehend AND remember what I have read (I am nowhere near 100% and I never will be). I will never give up my ability to smell and taste. And I sure as hell will never live a life where people's faces are constantly morphing into something else (try keeping and forming relationships when you have no idea what your friend looks like) and the other low level acid trip that was my life.

Prednisone has made my life better, but my doctor doesn't want me on it at all. I know what this drug can do, I wrote it out for my doctor to prove I understood what might happen. No prednisone at the dosage I need, then I'm checking out. Prednisone stops working, then I'm checking out.

Until that time comes, I'm going to read, play with my cats, exercise, volunteer when I can, and try to be kind to every person I come across because every single one of us is fighting a battle others can't see.

One of the things that bothers me the most about anti choice people is they never try to understand us. They never try and help. It's just empty platitudes and an arrogance about them like we should just "get over ourselves". And they always play the "but someone else has it worse card...and my fave response to that is it's like says someone should not be happy because others have it better. Sometimes people don't know our whole story and they should refrain from passing judgement until they have lived a day in our situation....this especially happened to me in previous work and family members.

Everything is just so corrupt, honestly. I know one of the main reasons why society doesn't want us to die or have that option, is because they lose money that way. They get so much money out of us having illnesses and seeking treatment for it. Prolonging the suffering and our time of death means more money... Don't get me started on that one, because hooboy.

To be honest, I'd rather be the one to do it myself. To put me in complete control over my own life. I wouldn't want an assisted suicide even if it were legal. I do think that suicide drugs should be made more available, though.
