I'm wondering what everyone's to-do lists are!

Also, wondering if a 26 year old with no retirement, 401k, mortgage, or any property or assets besides a checking and savings account needs to do anything financially besides designate someone as the payable on death beneficiary of my account? I don't think I'm going to get into a living will and all that because that is a much longer process than a form at a bank that will definitely draw suspicion from someone so young and physically healthy.

I would complete a DNR. Also, a will if you have anything you want to leave for people.

I will look into the DNR!! I definitely have no actual property or anything to offer anyone besides the money. Thank you!

Specify where you want the money to go to... a person, charity etc.

It will be left to my dad who will have access, I want some to go to my boyfriend and the rest to go to family to deal with the rest I leave behind. Luckily I trust my dad to respect my wishes financially, I just need to ensure he has access to my account once I pass. I am going to specify charities in lieu of flowers in my obituary :) Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! PS urggggh I am looking into the DNR and apparently your doctor has to cosign it. I have a history of mental illness, no way am I getting my doctor to sign that for me. I'm just gonna have to ensure I'm not found I guess ;-;

I am in New York. A doctor doesn't specifically have to sign it. Anybody can be a witness.

really?! ok, let me look into this more...if it's just a simple form with a small fee and a random courthouse person can witness it, I can definitely swing that

If all you have is bank accounts you can simply assign a person for a "pay upon death" option on the accounts. The assigned person would just bring in a death certificate and receive the funds from the account.

Regarding your words "so young and physically healthy". It seems a pity then that you need to CTB, because I often feel that other problems might be solveable if your health and physical wellbeing are good.
Obviously that can be a big oversimplification, but are you quite certain your issues aren't solveable ?

Write a letter for my mom that somehow convinces her it's not her fault. That's the big one - I know that if I ever do go through with it, she'll be absolutely crushed.

I also have this idea that it'd be nice to tie up all the loose ends you accumulate throughout a lifetime. People I've hurt and never gotten around to properly apologizing to, relationships left unresolved, that sort of thing.

I have been looking into this. But for me, my situation is I have kids and I need to leave them some videos or letters or something. They are really young so I know they will want somethings to know me by when they are older. It feels like a lot to do. I wish I could just get it over with. But I do find my only comfort now from the knowing that I have my suicide to complete!

I'm mostly done with everything, besides revising some of my goodbye letters and finishing this mix I've been meaning to leave for my boyfriend so he can listen to it when I'm gone. As well as cleaning my room. But I'm pretty much all set for the most part.

I don't know which state you are in, but you can find a form DNR online and you may need only to get it
notarized, so it is pretty easy. Make sure it is prominent if you CTB so it can be honored.

Your form at the bank comment may mean you already thought of this, but in most every state IF you make your checking and savings a joint account, the joint holder has the money anyway, quicker than going through a will, and at no expense. If that is not the case, can you trust anyone to be
a joint holder, so you don't need to worry about that any more.

If you die without a will, the state law will determine who inherits anything you do have, usually, a spouse first, then children and if neither, parents. You can look up "intestate death" for details, it is pretty standard laws.
