There seems to be a new 'trend' (for lack of a better word) on tiktok where people self harm by scratching their face until they are deeply scabbed and the skin around is raw. How do they do it?? It seems a lot of work and like it would take a long time to get the thick scabs that they do. I like the blade because it's quick and instant. Whenever I scratch my face with my nails I can't even get it to bleed so I don't know how these girls are doing it. They always have such semetrical lines of cuts on their cheeks that look like claw marks and then their foreheads are entirely red. In the comment sections they say they don't want to talk about how they got it but we all know they scratched themselves. When I was in the psych ward there was a lot of head banging but no face scratching.

Don't believe everything you see on TikTok. A lot of people on TikTok love to lie about having mental illnesses and mental health struggles for attention, so it would not surprise me if some of these people were just faking it for clout.

Some people do use scratching as an SH method and I, personally, have used it a few times in the past. It's not that hard. You just keep on scratching until you feel satisfied. I have never scratched deep enough to the point of full-blown bleeding, but I have stratched deep enough to cause my skin would turn red and start to leak serous drainage. Scratching is nowhere near as satisfying as cutting or hitting, but it can sometimes get the job done.

It's impossible to achieve that using just your nails unless you're scratching yourself repeatedly for hours, even then. The pain would be unbearable and almost no one would be able to go through with it. Even if self harming is your coping mechanism, it's probably best to not do this. There are less painful and harmful ways to go about it. ❤️

Yeah I don't want to do it myself I only cut where I can cover up anyway. I just can't work out how they are managing to get the scabs, especially in the psych ward they don't have access to anything sharp

Yeah, I've also gotten scabs from scratching before. You have to do it hard and you have to keep on doing it at least until you start to notice this sort of wet feeling. I don't really like it, hence why I haven't done it in years. The feeling of all those skin cells building up under your nails is just so icky.

Tiktok I thought we moved passed these stupid trends years ago. These idiots have no idea what living with a self harm addiction is actually like and to think it's all "cute" and "quirky" pisses me off. You're ripping open skin out of your own dangerous volition for Christ sake, that's not something that should be glorified! I bet these losers wouldn't last a second if they actually tried scratching themselves as self harm before deciding that it's too much pain. Love the aesthetic, hate the actual motion.

I definitely have some SH pics where I took a safety razor blade and scratched my face a ton and bled all over, lol.

I've never intentionally scratched myself for SH, but I do get thin scars on my face from scratching it so much, though they usually heal pretty fast. However, most of my scratching scars are around my hairline whenever I neglect my hygiene for prolonged periods of time, but even these are done because the area is itchy rather than because I want to SH. They leak fluid whenever I scratch them too much.

I didn't know people were SH via scratching as a trend though…
