Discussion Thoughts on discovering a body after hanging

Since I started thinking seriously about suicide I've been pretty set on hanging. It appeals to me mainly because of it's simplicity; I'm 18 and don't have much money or time available, so something simple and effective is needed. One thing that has been on my mind is the effect that discovering a hanged body has on someone. Is this going to seriously scare people? If I put a bag over my head so that the face is not seen will that make it easier for people to look at? This information won't really affect what I do much but I would still like to know what kind of effect seeing a hanging has on people.

I want to avoid it being family. It would be a stranger, I don't really have any close friends.

Make sure your attempt is someplace family will not find you.

I would use something like the hood a person had to wear for execution. A bag could look cruel too and it´s uncomfortable. A pillowcase would look more peaceful for example. The problem is that your face will look not so nice after the hanging (tongue out and so on)

Aim to do it in a secluded wooded area, the chances of anyone finding me at all within hours of my death are low. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody knows what happened for a few days.

was thinking that, by bag I mean a cloth bag or case of some kind, so good idea

For myself I just bought a simple piece of lycra-fabric in black that looks similar to the leggings I wil lwear at my hanging. I will put it over my head and fix it with the noose.

There was a young guy who went missing in the town next to mine and they had police helicopter out and the dogs with no avail. Then later that day a guy walking his dog in the usual place he goes too everyday and has done for a long time saw the young guy hanging from a tree , I heard he saw the back of the boy and didn't see any face etc but that messed the man up for life, he has ptsd still to this day and can't walk his dog now. So what I'm saying is bag or not it depends on the person who finds you......some will deal with it some will not.

I know of a few people affected by hanging a. One friend walked into a barn looking for his friend and walked into a pair of dangling legs. Messed his head up for years.
Another friend had to go let himself into his rental property when the chap didn't collect his kids and the same music track was blaring out the the open window as the night before... was confronted by a pair of feet and the rest he never spoke about other than "it was bad".
Another person couldn't get through the door as the suicidal one had done it off the door handle and collapsed his weight against it. It was his wife who found him.

feel sorry for both parties in all of the above but worse was an 18 year old girl found her boss dead from a cable tie round his neck at 11pm when she cashed up. Really scarred her. He was a friend and he meant it. I hope he's at peace.

As others have said, it depends on the person. Some can recover from it. A girl I used to work with got called to a hanging, she ended up leaving her job with PTSD.

Have you watched hanging videos and pictures? How do you feel seeing those? I know just the pics make me sick.. i couldn't imagine actually finding someone irl.

The gallows executions usually involved putting a burlap sack over the convicted person's head, for the very reasons others have mentioned. At least if it was a legal, court-imposed hanging and not a lynching. The face of a hanged person usually looks pretty gruesome. By the time he/she is cut down from the gallows and laid on the ground, their face takes on a more peaceful appearance, and the sack can be safely removed.

There's also an important distinction between conventional hanging with a gallows/noose and strangulation hanging. Conventional hanging isn't meant to strangle the person, but to break their neck to result in a nearly instant death, when the noose slides up and is stopped by the chin and jawbones. It's actually a fairly torture-free execution method, but requires a lot of careful engineering to work properly.
