Everything about this is complicated.

I remember panic-buying N in the wake of the NY Times fiasco, which ended up turning out to be a good investment, though driving people further towards suicide might not have been the NYT's intention.

Some people did leave out of fear, while in other ways the community gained a sense of unity against a defined opponent. (A different phenomenon entirely to internal disputes amongst ourselves, which are far more damaging.) Many new people found this community because of a journalist's attempt to destroy it.

In summary: I don't know. Life is too complex for my little brain.
