Anyone else feel that way or am I going to get attacked? It just brings a host of new problems I didn't have before. If I choose to commit suicide it shouldn't be because being here caused it and if I think I have a hope of getting better I'd have to leave forever

I really don't know how a website full of anonymous people all under fake names who have no clue who you are can cause you to commit suicide. Especially since we do not encourage people to CTB here.

But if you feel this website may cause you to CTB, maybe this isn't the right place for you.

Honestly, if you choose to commit suicide, it should only be done if it's what you really want to do, but if things get better for you, almost everyone here will be happy for you because that's what all of us really want anyway - to feel better, whether we have to ctb to achieve it or not. If I get to a point again where I'm feeling good enough that I don't think about committing suicide on a regular basis, I would still come around here anyway because it would give me the chance to support people who aren't feeling better yet, in whatever way I can, right up until the moment they decide to head for the emergency exit.

I don't expect that you will get attacked though. If leaving the site is the right thing for you, then it is the thing that you should do because it's important that you take care of yourself. If you ever feel the need to come back, you will be accepted just like you were the first time you arrived.

Your choice is your own and your own only, no one is forcing you to do anything, I have noticed you are very blunt and matter of fact, sometimes way off the mark sometimes bang on.
What you do is down to you, whether you stay or not, this forum isn't for everyone.
This forum is about support and advice, it isn't about encouraging anyone to do anything they are not ready for

Well, I feel much better over last couple months and don't feel like I have to leave. I did, however, withdrew from participating in most depression-inducing discussions, as it's getting harder and harder to empathize with feelings I start to forget.

So, I'll probably just leave eventually as there won't be anything left worth doing. But not soon, and it's not necessary for me.

I personally have found this forum full of loving caring people. Yes there is suicide conversations. For some people that seems to be enough of a vent to fight on until the next day.
Please don't take my comments wrong. I am not attacking or trying to put thoughts or feelings in your heart or head. I personally have found myself the time I have been here feeling better. If I can help someone, that helps me feel like I accomplished something and gave me s tiny purpose at that moment.
If you decide that you need to leave or stay is up to you and what you need.
You have friends here either way.

I believe I understand what you are saying. I find this place incredibly helpful and then there are times I wonder if I should leave, not because of what anyone has said or done, just ponder on if its making me me more low sometimes. I dont think you were referring to fact that this place would make you CTB, but that sometimes its all so much to take in and on same subject matter, it gets overwhelming. I believe this is what you are trying to convey? I dont think for me being here will make me any more low or sad or decide anything for me, but I do have to catch myself from coming on too often and times it upsets me alot what people post and I cant handle goodbye threads at all. Doesn't mean this place isn't helpful for us. We are all struggling and yet we are all different, so it maybe that the more sensitive among us become more effected by certain issues. I know this is how it is for me, yet same time this place has been a lifeline for me so appreciate it so much. xx

I can see why it is bad for your mental health because you care. You entrust people with your authentic self. Cut through a lot of shallow crap to discover compassion and understanding. Some one whose posts and messages nurture you in some way you don't have in life. Then they go grey and are gone and an emptiness is left behind. Due to the nature of this site that pattern repeats and does wreck people's mental health because constant loss just hurts after a while. It feeds into its own hopelessness cycle I think. Definitely seen people leave because of that.

The other side are the absolutists stances that misery is the only truth happiness is a lie every one is doomed because I am doomed. I don't think that is good either. Also if this were a gardening forum and you bring up how snails and slugs are actually kinda awesome. You will likely get brow beaten by how you endorse the murder of cabbages even if that is not what you are saying. It is just like any social media it has its perks and its downsides and where you take that personally is kinda on you. If you are only staying for the kindness, then only you can decide if that is worth it in contrast to whatever is making this place bad for your mental health. Maybe it is worth doing an experiment, simply leave for a while keeping it open ended and see if you do better or worse. Then let that inform your decision.

Just a thought. Take care.

I've been thinking along similar lines, although perhaps for somewhat different reasons. I feel that I need this place, but I'm not sure it's healthy for me. I don't really know what to do. One thing is for sure, though: no one is forcing me to be here, so I shouldn't complain.

I can get why it could be bad but at the same time, nobody, not one single person would ever tell you to commit suicide on this board. Not one. It's not this websites fault if you chose to end your life. At the end of the day, you chose to come here, to read, to post, nobody forces you to do that either.
If your mental state is fragile atm, I'd recommend staying away if you feel easily pushed over the edge.
For me, this place actually saved my life. It changed my life. Totally. I would be dead if I hadn't found this forum, no doubts about it.

@Mr2005

You are not the only one who feels this way.

SS is like a magnifying glass which enhaces all the suffering that otherwise is scattered and unseen out in the real world.

Anyone who participates in this forum with an open heart and invests a tiny bit of their soul into every post is bound to get hurt.

Please don't worry your honesty will cause you to be attacked. Far from it. I admire your courage to speak your mind and to aknowledge that this forum might not be good for you. I agree with what some of the other members have written: maybe a break would help you put things into perspective. After all, you are always welcome back.

I, for one, always enjoyed your posts! Especially the "Hello, other people here". That one line still makes me smile when I think of it.

Take care, Mr! All the best from me!

The OP reminds me of an expat bar I used to hang out in. I'm not much of a drinker, but it was one of the few available local social options, and of those few, I liked that particular crowd best.

But certain behaviors are accepted in bars, and I had to fight it bringing me down. I had to either totally accept the behaviors and the environment; fight and sometimes win; fight and sometimes be hurt/hated; or leave when the environment was bringing me down more than it served me. It was a stagnant environment, being a bar; people weren't seeking to improve, they were seeking to socialize with intoxicants, which tend to bring out the worst more often than the best.

Folks who come to SS get pro-choice, they get support for improving, they get support if they can't make improvement happen, they get support if they're ready for an irreversible decision. It makes sense that if one wants to live, hanging out in conversations about death can feel stagnant or harmful, because the inner self is heading for its own pro-life.

I recently read an analogy of two coals (no CO pun intended). Place a freshly lit one next to a sooty one that's about to go out. Either the freshly lit one will bring new fire to the old one, or the old one will extinguish the new one. But both are gonna end up with some soot.

So, OP, I can see how an environment that supports suicide is gonna hurt if you want to recover. It depends on your ratio of soot to fire, and what environment best matches who you really are and/or what you really seek. It may be that you've been revived and are capable of brushing some soot off, but keep getting more on you.

And yeah, that recent troll thread that bothered you so much, shit like that is gonna happen here too. It's definitely troubling to the opposite of a troll.

I'm sorry that you are feeling down @Mr2005 and I agree with others on here. If you are being bogged down emotionally and psychologically on here, then it is a good idea to just take a break. The forums and site will still be around when you need it and are seeking support from like-minded individuals here in the future. I'll give you my story just for reference. There were times in the past 1.5 years that I was on this forum where I'm less suicidal (more passive than active) and I've simply just didn't get on here, but when my life situation turned bad again, I had a place where I can find solace. So what I will say is take a break if you feel that is the right decision for you, and just remember that the forum will still be here when you are seeking support once more.

It's not really me I'm worried about and I've seen what a rarity that is. Many have given up on everyone and want to see the world end. I can't do that. What if we keep coming back? We need something to come back to. What did this world do wrong? It gave us a home and we're killing it and ourselves. If that's cause for celebration then you're the problem (not you personally)

I get what you mean, before I didn't have methods, or plans or ways to vent and actually bring a plan into effect .

I don't think you mean people are effecting you , it's just having a place to manifest all those ideas into reality with information and research - Suicide never felt so real until now!

I get it and was thinking same thing the other day but it'salso what you make it, I'm trying not to get too caught up (I'm obsessive naturally) so I just think freely on here instead of 100% plotting it by the minute, because it wasn't like that when you got here maybe ?

I suspect it is the natural course of things. Everything has its time and everything dies. Including humanity. It is sad, but something else will rise from the Ashes, and if we do come back, we'll come back to that.
We are part of nature and can't be above it. Though we try to be better, and that is a noble thing.
