I've never been to a psychiatrist, why even if you need him to take time off from work or for other purposes, I don't need something like that

What help dou you need and expect (those are two different things)?
You can go to psychiatrist if you are afraid of mental hospital.

So I've been to a psychiatrist in the past and she honestly made things worse.

I need help in becoming functioning again. And I want to get back to my former habits and former mindset. I want to be able to engage with the world not just be in my own head. I want to become a responsible adult not an addicted baby who hates discomfort ;( I used to be different....

There are so many variables; I don't think it's possible for us to tell you if you would be helped or not.

Have you considered psychotherapy? A so-called talking cure?

Being in the psych-ward helped me to cope with acute suicidality. I semi-voluntarily went to a psych-ward because I was very suicidal. It helped me that I could not suicide in this place. The pressure to do it was very high to that time. It was a little bit of a relief but the pain still was extremely huge.

Because I went voluntarily there I had a better treatment I think. I did not have to go to the place where all the psychotic/ and acute suicidal people have to go to. I could go to a clinic (also psych-ward) with more freedom. And yeah this helped me. It was way better than the place where I had to go if I was forced to one.

If you experience a huge pressure to act on your thoughts a clinic could help. At least for me helped me a little bit. I had a therapist with whom I could talk like several hours a day. It was a good valve. This was absolutely luxury. She was very kind but also really religious. The other patients were on a trip wtih the staff. And I honestly don't have a fucking clue why they do a vacation trip in a fucking psych ward???

Honestly if support with different habits in daily life is what you're looking for, and you consider addiction a big part of the problem... you might get something out of AA like don't get me wrong people might still push their shit religious beliefs on you and people trying to sexually pick people in crisis up in a predatory way is a REAL ISSUE but... at least you will ultimately, legally, physically, be able to walk out the door if you want and people won't assault you for doing so.
(And at least you'll still be able to *go about your daily life* and practice the habits you want instead of being locked in an institution where your routines will be disrupted and controlled by authorities who'll then basically forget about you once you're out the door and back on the street.)
So maybe try AA? Some places there are also Secular Sobriety and HAMS (Harm reduction) groups.

They will give you a lot of medicine. You will share with people who are in your same situation what will be more bearable for you. Schedules will be strict (sleep, eat, wake up, etc). You can't go out unless you're discharged. Your stay may be extended unless the doctors see improvements in you.

It is quite an experience. Good for some, bad for others. I advise you to find out about a good clinic or hospital that can give you more information to help you.

I avoided the psychiatric hospital by going to a treatment center it's more long term, I was there for 3 weeks. I had health insurance and a very good support system who covered a lot of the finances but if you have the means it is worth giving it a chance.

I considered going to a local ward, but aborted the idea because it would leave me with a record that would possibly lead to employment discrimination. That and the fact that, like everything else these days, they probably wouldn't have any resources for another patient anyway. But your mileage may vary.
