(My therapist emailed these suggestions to me the other day. Knowing her, I doubt she'd mind if I shared them with others.)

Things To Try When You Want to Cut

- Splash your face with cold water
- Try "TRE" which is tremoring to let stress out of your body:

- Create a "safe space" in your mind. Think of your safe place.
- Go for a walk.
- Try self compassion meditation: https://self-compassion.org/self-compassion-practices/
- Picture sitting with your kid self in the rain. Say to yourself, "Feelings are just like weather. They are OK and they pass."

If none of those things work try harm reduction methods - pop yourself with a rubber band, hold an ice cube for a minute until it hurts.
If you still can't stop yourself from doing it you can call your therapist (if they're open to it).

I will try the ice cube. I just did some baby and cat (thank God the scissor couldn't cut deep).
(I don't believe in God but y'know, thank God haha, it's common where I live)

Similar to the ice cube, one I like is having an orange that I keep in the freezer & rolling it up and down my arms or on my cheeks/chest. The orange doesn't go bad as long as it stays frozen, and I like the rolling sensation more than just holding something. It's from the TIPP skill in DBT

Recently (and oddly) eating cold crisp celery sticks from the fridge has been calming for me. I guess there's a lot of sensations and action such as breaking/snapping/chewing.
