There's some kind of medication, self-harm or anything else that could make me lose my memories from the past months or even years? I'm dealing with an awful traumatic situation and i'm planning on CTB anytime soon to end my pain. But i still want to try something to give myself a chance, maybe forcing myself to lose my memories of the past 4-5 years where all the trauma happened or at least half of it. Any advices? I go to therapy every week, take medications, but nothing is helping me to get better

They say that i'll move on, but damn, it's been years, i already gave up

Maybe you would be better off asking this in the recovery section of the site.

ECT causes memory loss, but science is not at a point where any mental operations can be precisely targeted (if there were, mind control would cause any kind of deviance to be a thing of the past) If you do bilateral ECT, you'll probably lose memories, but there's no telling which ones. It also has a lot of side effects.

Personally that would be a last choice for me, I'd try stuff like EMDR and other types of trauma therapy to help first. And books like "the body keeps the score" can be helpful.

I don't know if it works 100%, but, in my personal experience, sleep deprivation combined with specific acts of self-sabotage (putting off work until the last minute, ruminating on said work as well as other things out of your control, and "failing" to take any medication(s) that may have an impact on memories) that'll exacerbate your depression, anxiety, and stress significantly deteriorate your memory.

The only problem is that this hinders your ability to memorize things permanently, and you rarely have control over what you forget unless you go out of your way to train yourself to never think about it again.

I suggest that you save this method as a last resort though. I did this as a kid frequently, and now I'm unable to remember anything past yesterday. Plus, there's no telling what side effects it might have on you.

The sad truth is that this is probably not possible in the way you think it.
Therapists always say that you should learn to live with it which often doesn't work.
There is sadly no way to completely fix our mental problems most of the time and it is just depressing.

The only healthy way to temporarily forget something is by distraction which doesn't work good if you are generally depressed.
Many Drugs, especially opioids and benzos are good at blocking bad memories but the memories will be more prominent when you will withdrawal then.

The only permanent solutions for this problem that I see is removing parts of the brain (which is dumb cause then you are disabled) or suicide.

I did something similar to this, trying to escape the awful reality, i have some memories issues, but nothing that actually erased anything happened. Thanks for replying! I'll for sure keep this in mind

Yes, that's the sad reality

My therapist says that i'll eventually move on but it's so hard when you have nothing to appreciate in that life

Life may be beautiful for some, but unfortunanely, i'm not one of them

If I could I would, but it still wouldn't undo any damage done to others. Only way it would work for me is making me forget who I was entirely and starting a completely new and different life.

When I was taking.
Quetiapine
Mirtazipine
It blocked alot of my past out. Good and bad.
But i was unable to make new memory's, forgetfulness, some days zombie mode.. other days squirrel mode.
could get hard but not finish.
emotions up and down everywhere.
Somedays completely fine.

Up to you if you think those are fair trades for blocking out memory's.
And that's suppose to be "treatment" right ?

This was just my experience everyone has different reactions to meds.
Good luck.

I tried asking this and everyone said it's not possible to do it, hell I even emailed a hypnotist asking them if they could do it but of course they said they know of no such way to do this. I was in a real bad way last year ruminating over a traumatic event and it didn't seem like I'd ever stop going over it, but now I'm much better. I still wanna CTB because of it, plus other things but at least I'm not constantly going over the memories. I'm sorry you are struggling, I wish there was a way to not have to live with such horrible memories.
