The title is from this scene in Shawshank but resonates with me a lot considering how fast the world went, over the past few decades !

Maybe its my way of regretting to have grown up, but even when I rethink about it, seems it was a lot simpler times in the past and I don't see the point of recovering back to this world.

Imagine if the movie Home Alone happened today. The kid is likely to stay glued to the screen rather than flying the sledge down the stairs and have fun doing it. ugh.... just thinking out loud, but I would like to hear your thoughts.!

All I'm going to say is that everyone who thinks these "simpler times" were so much better still has a cell phone, every social media account, orders Dunkin donuts on the app, and texts more than they call.

If it was so much better, people would actually be living that way. Instead people embrace this new connected world.

As for me, I'm all for progress. I've met people and had experiences that just wouldn't have been possible 10+ years ago.

I agree with what you said @threesummers . There is no denying the progress in the world is only for its betterment. I guess maybe its just I am feeling too overwhelmed with the speed with which it is changing and struggling to catchup.

Also, not that I am 50+ or anything. I am still 27 and such thoughts hovering around me lol

This is a pragmatic approach and has merit, but there is definitely something very creepy happening with us slowly fusing with technology and plunging into simulated worlds. Just because everyone becomes addicted to a drug it doesn´t mean that it won´t harm them or that it isn´t a drug.

I have no alternatives and don´t live in a primitivist commune deep in the forest but I won´t just deny that something is wrong with the current approach to reality that humans have embraced. We should be doing real life shit, instead of be expected to think that the Metaverse or Non Fungible Tokens are something to behold. In fact, the obsession with series and videogames (which are simulations themselves) is part of this peculiar disease afflicting people.

By the way, forums like this one are a remnant of the first wave of simulacra that started getting human space in the 90s. We are all addicted to simulations and hybrid fake/real realities like social media mediated by technology now.

There was no betterment whatsoever with people applauding from their balconies their home arrest in a trial for a police state, and worse things will come. I guess if you get really integrated with the Borg Collective you will be fine and feel completely in tune with with their bullshit, but if you have any autonomous thought processess you will be fucked.

Books are simulations too. We shouldn't read books?
