The UK government bizarre paradox.

That people are being made homeless, in debt, many unable to access timely medical treatment or encouraged to pay for their own treatment. Unaffordable rent and mortgages. Some government officials who seem to me ,more focused on their own needs, than the people they serve.

Many people are dying, who want to live and yet they are failed by our government.

How can a government support the sanctity of life when they appear to me, to turn a blind eye to the many desperate people who want to live ?.

The UK government doesn't care about us, the entire system is absolutely broken.

I watched my Mum and older sister go through mental health care and it was awful. My sister was literally nearly dead in hospital before she was put in to a mental health unit… and even then they just kept her drugged.

More generally some people are so poor they can't eat or have heat/light, or are living in substandard accommodation. (Damp, mold etc) The country feels hopeless right now

Not sure if possible to find video of this c.2020 ? BBC Andrew Marr episode :

In a nutshell : what LORD SUMPTION said … smug, shocking + shameless … to that dear young mum cancer survivor …

To paraphrase LORD SUMPTION :

"It's not that your life has no value - it just has less value"

I think society in general has failed us. I think society has been fine at throwing people into the margins and letting them suffer through no fault of their own.

Here's the Video [2021] -- btw, Lord Sumption back-tracked his comments afterwards -- https://www.theguardian.com/law/202...tion-cancer-patient-life-less-valuable-others

*BELOW - Med. Lit. - RE : Lord Sumption's "Inconsistencies" on "SANCTITY of LIFE vs EUTHANASIA"

Abstract - Lord Sumption and the values of life, liberty and security: before and since the COVID-19 outbreak -- https://jme.bmj.com/content/48/10/779

"Lord Sumption, a former Justice of the Supreme Court, has been a prominent critic of coronavirus restrictions regulations in the UK. Since the start of the pandemic, he has consistently questioned both the policy aims and the regulatory methods of the Westminster government.

*He has also challenged rationales that hold that all lives are of equal value.

In this paper, I explore and question Lord Sumption's views on morality, politics and law, querying the coherence of his broad philosophy and his arguments regarding coronavirus regulations with *his judicial decision in the *assisted-dying case* of R (Nicklinson) v Ministry of Justice.

*In Nicklinson, Lord Sumption argued for *restrictions on liberty given the priority of the *sanctity of life principle and the protection of others who may be vulnerable,
as well as for deference to policy-making institutions in instances of values-based disagreement.

The apparent *inconsistencies in his positions*, I argue, are not clearly reconcilable, and invite critical analysis of his impacts on health law and policy."

But is he implying that ,which some politicians and elitists fail to say but privately think ?. For exmple, Im thinking of the young cancer patient who coudnt get cancer treatment on the NHS to save his life, whereas a wealthy person could afford such treatment on the private route. HIs wealth and status places greater priority above that of the poor man. In short, his life is worth more than the poor mans life. The capitalist system is such and the poor man dies.

In conclusion, I believe the capitalist system and the elitists that control us do not see less wealthy people as equal to their own. That wealth is the key to doors, in-accessable to the poor. That rich and poor eventually take the same doorway anyhow.

Yes good point @Rational man

But - does this wealth also apply to Voluntary Euthanasia ?

Per - Lord Sumption - Euthanasia also depends on :
'who you are' / access to private healthcare ?!

ie — None of these 3 victims — below— could travel to Switzerland ?!

Nicklinson vs Lord Sumption :
Around the time of Mr Nicklinson - There were 2 other UK victims of paralyzingly injuries — who were also dismissed :

:(

In life and death, wealth does open doors. The wealthy person may have access to legal routes to assisted dying where people have serious and terminal illnesses. For example the Swiss clinic charges a fee that maybe beyond the means of many people. Certainly in my case, the clinic's fee plus travelling to Switzerland and other add on charges and arrangements, pretty much excludes me from obtaining the service. In addition , we must be careful not to implicate a third party due to legal complications. Plus in all probability, I would be arrested before boarding the plane to Switzerland, the consequence of the secret state police monitoring my ' activity within the totalitarian control of the state.

The state doesnt care. In order to uphold its highminded moral and ethical duty, it would have me suffer for Years with an illness than allow me to die in peace and dignity. The state of the NHS and care system in UK is so appalling that the chances of a prolonged and painful death are very much odds on favourite in my case. I witnessed my Mother die of lymphoma. The doctors were really powerless to inact anything.
