Is it just me? Not sure about this term. It seems derogatory.

I see. Are they by definition "normal" though?I use the term to refer to those who do not understand or do not care to understand those of us with mental illnesses and challenges.
So "normie" is maybe a term used by people who feel excluded.I think this term may have started from incels (involuntarily celibate) te refer to people for whom things are going well in mainstream society, people who have excluded them in some ways. There are incels involved in this site, including founders I think- which makes sense because this is one of the ways to end up in a serious depression.
Are "they" just anybody who isn't "us"? But there isn't really an "us". We on here can't all be lumped together and we wouldn't consider ourselves a homogenous group. So I can't see how "they" can all be lumped together.I'm more worried about the terms they use when they talk about us.
I think I'd have to ask somebody who was actually on the receiving end of the term."Normal" - normie, what's so offensive about that etymology?
I think this is a good point.I do not particularly like that term, what is seen as normal is subjective. Wanting to die is normal for me, and what some others see as normal is likely to be completely different.
Ok. But can we say all of them are indifferent to our suffering? Is being indifferent to the suffering of suicidal people an intrinsic part of being neurotypical? Or maybe being unable to comprehend it? As in you have to be neuroatypical in order to be suicidal?I think it's just a slang for neurotypical people. I don't think it's derogatory at all. However people here do dislike them as they are indifferent to our suffering.
Yes. I think this is the case. Succinctly put.Classic us vs them Tribalism to create a stronger sense of group cohesion among "outcasts". The term is so vaguely defined and many who might appear normal on the surface are anything but underneath the facade.
You give what you get.Is it just me? Not sure about this term. It seems derogatory.
It's not a "problem". And presumably you don't read or post on a thread which doesn't interest you.Tbh, as a guy who suffers from C-PTSD due to CSA, I couldn't care less about this "problem"...
It's not a "problem".
I think the point is for it to be derogatory because normies are cringe and boring xd. But yeah I'm pretty sure that is the point tho but also I think it's now used to refer to people who are well-adjusted/intergrated into society and society's values and yeah as a low life I can't relate to that kind of group of people so normie would be a pretty fair way of labeling them.Is it just me? Not sure about this term. It seems derogatory.
Hate it, annoying, actual adults talking like teenagers, immature bullshit imho.Is it just me? Not sure about this term. It seems derogatory.
I am curious. Do you think the same about the term CTB (catch the bus)? If you say using the term "normie" was immature this should also apply to "ctb". If you disagree with that where is the difference?Hate it, annoying, actual adults talking like teenagers, immature bullshit imho.
Basically ctb is not used as a pejorative by a person presenting themselves as essentially superior on an invisible scale. I have similar issues with "hur hur the neurotypicals", which is a false norm based around a vague quasi-diagnostic criteria.I am curious. Do you think the same about the term CTB (catch the bus)? If you say using the term "normie" was immature this should also apply to "ctb". If you disagree with that where is the difference?
Given that they are the frequently engaged majority, yes. Normies are the norm.I see. Are they by definition "normal" though?
It originates from 4chan and other versions are normal with a slur after it. You are either a normalscum can never understand anything due to not having the isolated neet dweller experience and forever doomed to be "cattle". A general theme was never being able to fit in, and forever being socially maladjusted and a virgin. It was something inherent to you as a person. Wouldn't be shocking if such a thing leaked over to the incel forums. Cope and it's terminology has already leaked over into the twitter sphere. Another example of a leaked meme from there would be the NPC meme which became huge on the web and used even in youtube thumbnails. People are really fond of the idea of being special and otherwise the person they're talking to inherently a simpleton that can never understand. Normie is largely looked down on in imageboard spaces because of its ironic popularity in twitter.I think this term may have started from incels (involuntarily celibate) te refer to people for whom things are going well in mainstream society, people who have excluded them in some ways. That is part of it, but part of it is also that it's seen that normies can never otherwise achieve anything other than being blissfully mediocre. It goes into them not being able to understand or look deeper into aspects of life and their pursuits. e.g. people who dedicate themselves to obscure philosophy aren't normie. It depends on what subset of the userbase is using the term if it's the tfwnogf variety or the "I am better than you because I read and worshop evola" variety. The latter don't see themselves suffering from being non-normie, but rather because they are forced to put up with people who are beneath them. It's like mocking someone for being objectively better than you. A way of bringing the superior down to the level of the inferior.
Interesting I did not know that. Maybe I had a different stance on it if I had those information before I wrote the post. I never was in these internet bubbles. I had no information about the terminology. Though my post was mainly about the way I use the word "normie". For me the term seemed so innocent. It originates from 4chan and other versions are normal with a slur after it. Aside for the thread topic, it's just similar to calling someone a worm, moron, or so on. I think the environments that foster the mindset of hierarchy are worse than the term itself. I don't think people who call other people normie care if feelings are hurt. I have engaged with the word normie in private, but it's less of a scathing loathing of the "normies" more so than just a easy word for people who have adopted cultural or societal ideas who will otherwise never understand you. Likely not the most ideal -- but it's easily understood by the person I talk to. It's easy and low effort.
yes i have spent too much on the internet
True. Actual normies really have no reason to care at all.I think most adults get over it pretty easily. It's hard to give a shit about this stuff if you work forty hours a week or actually bother reading the books instead of looking at a meme chart recommendation.
Normie is rather innocent considering most aren't aware of the implications and the word has largely became to be exiled on the imageboards. Don't feel so bad if you've used it.Interesting I did not know that. Maybe I had a different stance on it if I had those information before I wrote the post. I never was in these internet bubbles. And non-normies are too busy staying up until 2-3 am with their Kant bust and doing non-normie things to complain about other people.True. Actual normies really have no reason to care at all.
Man, I guarantee that is true. And we really all should have learned this lesson already. I am keenly aware how my history appears on paper (or picture). It's a nice shiny object. I am certain that I will be made a cliché if my fate becomes public....many who might appear normal on the surface are anything but underneath the facade.
4chan sounds so toxic. I'm glad I never found my way there.
