I don't know about you but it seems like I'm perpetually in orbit around my life. I have a bad habit of floating out to such a degree that all I can see are the calamity of mistakes that I've left behind me and a bleak future ahead. Today, as a means to improve myself, I'm going to focus on the small things. I'm gonig to try to stay closer to the ground, if only for a day.

What are my plans for the day? Well I have a shopping list. I've been putting my groceries off for about a week and I'm down to eggs and noodles. Don't get me wrong, I love eggs and noodles, but I do need to get something more. When I shop, I like to have enough for 1-2 weeks at least. My shopping list is smoked fish, couscous, a frozen pizza, green beans, mushrooms, bean sprouts, tofu, skyr, yazoo, olives and a jar of chopped chilis. This will make about a weeks worth of meals with lots of potential to stretch. I typically make fish and couscous for 2 meals, a big stir fry with the veg, some soy sauce, vinegar, chilis and cumin. I eat it on rice. Lastly, I've been craving pizza and the protein from the cheese is good for me. I can stretch this meal list with the olives by making a pasta dish with stock, olives, sundried tomatoes and milk. Maybe some cheese. When I have nothing left, I can make some instant noodles with eggs and frozen peas, which is surprisingly tasty and is pretty nutritious.

What else do I need to do today? Well I need to get bioethanol. I have a camp stove of swedish make and I have been loosely planning on homelessness/camping on the isle of Arran in Scotland. I had some ordered but as it turns out, they won't post from the mainland UK to Northern Ireland because reasons. I emailed a company down south to see if they'll transport up north but I'll check the local hardware store today.

Lastly I have some waterproof trousers that are stuck in the post office because my mother won't let me put a note on the door telling them to leave my packages there. So they default to the post office and I have to go get them. It isn't a big deal but it's just annoying.

Additional extras to my day will be fill out university forms and potentially take advantage of some free gambling promos that I was sent via email. It's a fools errand but I'm good with resolve in that regard.

That's it. Small things. If I complete these tasks by the end of my day, I will try to take some comfort in that.

What small things do you hope to accomplish?

You sound like you really enjoy cooking -- good on you for getting the things you need to make it happen. It can definitely help us to feel a little better to accomplish something that we feel good about.

Tomorrow I am going to catch up on my grading. I'm not terribly behind, but I have "88 total items" to grade in one of my classes. Most of them are from this small assignment, so it's not terrible to grade -- just something I need to force myself to do.

Awesome shopping list! I'm sure you're going to cook delicious meals :smiling: I don't really feel like doing much, most days I feel useless. I'll try to make more music today.

Usually, in the evening I will make a small list of to do's for the next day.

Today, I will do a last ditch effort at repairing the door handle on my oven. If it doesn't work, will call the manufacturer for a replacement handle.

Then I will practice a shooting exercise preparatory for tomorrow's lesson. It's precision drawing, as in drawing from a holster, and involves attaching a paper cup to a wall, draw the pistol quickly and the tip of the barrel goes into the cup. Faster, faster, faster. Unloaded, btw.

Tidy up a bit. Put away the tools from the last project.

If it warms up a bit, take my little dog for a walk.

The small things project day by day, or even by morning, afternoon and night, is a good way to you focus on the present moment. Everybody tells me that. At the presebt moment, i find it very difficult too, but maybe in the near future in can practice this more.

I managed to complete my list with an additional surprise of a package from my friend in the states. It had chocolates, a book and some pens. It was a very good day.

Tomorrow I will fill out a university form and email my grandfather. Should be an easy day.

I don't, no. I've flirted with the idea in the past but never really followed through in any consistent capacity. I'm uploading a video diary entry as we speak, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it uploaded just yet. It's less interesting than my writing

Hi I don't know what skyr and yazoo are but maybe try add Quorn mince to your list it's versatile too/ and if you can grab some, a sachet of Schwartz Bombay potato.

We do Bombay with veggie sausages and it's a warm and filling grub. Dunk a naan bread and you're all set.

With the Bombay sachet just add it in frying pan to olive oil plus 5 tablespoons water

When mixed add onions and tomatoes with cubed par boiled potatoes and simmer for 10-15 minutes. The amount a sachet makes will give about 3 servings.

It will keep in fridge for another day if you can't face it 3 days in a row.
There's two of us here and we stumbled on the sausage & Bombay potato idea after leftover curry. Hope these ideas help.

Aye. I used to buy their chili spice mix until I started mixing my own. Good stuff. Thank you for the recipe.

Skyr is Icelandic yoghurt -- good for protein. Yazoo is banana milk, also good for protein albeit a bit sugary. Quorn is definitely one of my favourite alt-meats. Mushroom protein and potato protein is the way to go. I've tried pea protein but it gave me death farts for a day and it was expensive the last time I looked.

I haven't tried pea protein. Your experience makes me wary :ahhha:

How do you make your own chilli spice mix?

It's tasty but it seems to produce the most awful gas in my digestive tract. It's common in the US now (I think "Impossible Meat" is pea protein), but we're lucky over here cause we have a bigger range of alt-meats.

I do 1 tbsp chili powder, 1tps cumin, 1tps paprika, 1/2 tps oregano, 1/2 tps salt, 1/2 tps pepper, 1/4 tps cayenne pepper, 1/2 garlic powder and sometimes some onion powder if I have it. Onion powder is strong though so I don't use that much of it. I normally end up adding more salt and more cumin, but it depends.

I use all these spices regularly, so it makes sense for me to have them around. If you wanted to make your own but not get every spice available to man, the chili baseline is really just chili powder, cumin, paprika and oregano. Spice, earthy, sweet, herby. Salt for flavour.

I'm making chili tomorrow actually. My recipe uses:

1x yellow onion or 1-2 shallots
2x bell pepper (any colour)
1x jar of pickled jalapeno
1x tin of sweetborn
1x tin of kidney beans or pinto
1x packet of alt-meat
2x cartons of pesata (it's just tinned tomatoes without the chunks, but you can do chunks if you want)
my spice mix

Pro tip: add a bit of vinegar and sugar to your sauce, cook it low and slow all day. Order of ingredients and the way you cut them up doesn't matter. Get a jar of "Lazy" garlic. It's just chopped garlic in a jar with white wine vinegar. It's pretty good value. You can get it at tescos. Don't be afraid to add salt. Salt is flavour. This pot should feed 2 people for 2 days or 1 for 3 or so, depending on how much you eat. I just make it for myself and nurse it over the course of a week. I will eat it in 2-3 because my living situation is temporary. Whole meal should cost under £10 depending on if you have the spices or not. It can be frozen in portions and keeps in the fridge for about a week. Serve plain, with rice, with potatoes, with fries or with tortilla chips. The last is my favourite, with rice a close second.

Yum. Wow you like to take time with your preparation of food. We have a few of those listed. Will try out a few variations ;-)

If I had space to move without a fart killing me in mine I would get busy like that. Daydreams for now though. Thank you for all the information that's very helpful.
PS, Have you ever been a chef?

You're very welcome.

Nope. I just like being able to feed myself. I hate being reliant on other people. Drives me nuts. I hear chefs are all drugged up crazies anyway
