It's quite fucking obvious that this dude is no longer 'missing' but dead (just yet to be found)!!

He's obviously gone to some lengths not to be found whether that's walking out into the Irish Sea and his body boping around but not coming close to a shore or he's headed deep into some woods and he's hung himself I mean HOW how do people going missing in the UK ????

I'd love to the hope that can then exist for family and friends that oh he's still maybe alive gotta have hope etc but I haven't the foggiest where to go to go missing

As I understand it, these cases cause enduring suffering precisely because of that protracted hope. Death, or an assumption of such, allows for closure and grieving. The living relatives of a missing person wait for years, feeling guilty about moving on or giving up hope while still dealing with the practical reality of your absence and loss. They also have to deal with the uncertainty and fear that if they found you something awful might have happened—hoping for the least worst. It is a state of limbo. No burial or funeral for those who value that spiritually either.

If you don't value that, I agree going missing is extremely appealing, if only aesthetically. But you expressed wanting to give hope, so I imagine you do. Sorry.

Most of those on missing lists I believe have ctb. There are many places in the UK and surrounding seas to never be found

To be honest that's not true. Most of the people that are permanently missing end up in human trafficking.

Few people would chose to be "missing". How could you do that to your family and friends? (btw I have none of the two listed. I'm lonely but still. I'd like people to know that I CTB because I don't want to end up in some weird tv show about missing person never solved cases)

A possibility might be convincing your family that you're decided to travel the world to seek spiritual enlightenment. Send emails a bit from the ashram of whatever religious centre you get to, becoming more effusive about the guru and path you have discovered and then disappear. They might be easier with the idea that you're happy somewhere and have gone native.

Of course in reality either you do find enlightenment and go native but you'll get visa problems eventually, just come back or ctb. Someone will find you and the embassy will be on the phone to your family once you've been identified. Like you say it's a nice romantic idea though. i remember the film 'Into the wild', which gave much attention to the parents of the individual in question when he didn't contact them for a long time. This has to be harder where there is no closure, though in the end for them there was.

I have to say i think whatever it is the method, the loss is going to felt by anyone who cares for you. Lots of us suffer crippling anxiety about killing ourselves when it comes down to it and families and friends will experience the same, if we have any, for the rest of their lives. I am constantly wrestling with this issue and consciously inflicting this on them and trying to consider ways to minimise the impact.
