Your parents had to have sex at a particular moment and presumably not used contraception.

They had to not be distracted by something that might have postponed ejaculation for just 5 seconds. Or alternately they did have to be distracted by something that postponed ejaculation.

The sperm cell that created you had to swim faster than the millions of other sperm cells.

Your mom had to have not gotten pregnant from intercourse the night before, or the night before that. Or at any time in the previous 9 months.

Your mom had to decide not to abort you.

This same set of events happened for numerous generations. Otherwise your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents etc never would have existed.

I get so angry thinking about this.

Add in the extreme odds of being made up of your particular batch of chromosomes/genes/dna, etc.
Especially if you've "got" something that's often hereditary.

No fun at all.

Sorry to ruin your day, but I love this kind of
existential shit:

The odds of your parents meeting were 1 in 20,000

The odds of your parents then having a kid is 1 in 2,000

The odds of that kid being you are 1 in 400 quadrillion

The odds of your lineage remaining unbroken for all of human history, all the way back to the first single-celled organism is 1 in 10 [45,000]. (That's a 10 with 45,000 zeros after it)

The odds of the right sperm meeting the right egg through that whole lineage is 1 in 10 [2,640,000]. (10 with 2.64 million zeros after it)

Put all that together and the odds of you existing are 1 in 10 [2,685,000]

Which is the same odds as 2 million people each rolling a trillion sided dice, and all landing on the same number

And this doesn't even take into account the chances of humans existing in the first place

(I'm sure some of the math is off, as I was trying to condense it from an article haha)

I can't understand why people bring children to this world. Dammm even if the chances of bringing a child that'll grow up to be depressed will be 1 to 100000000000000000, I'll never take this chance and ruin their lives. Also this world is fucked up and full of evilness.

Seems like sometimes, people will be lucky enough to have a good, delusional life early on, get pregnant in early 20s, and then by the time they're in their 30s, they're like "Damn. Why did I bring children into this world? I didn't realize it was so bad when I did." That's what seems to be the case with the Mormons here in Utah anyway.

Has anyone ever thought that possibly your individual conscious is directly tied to your exact DNA? As in, if that exact sperm and egg had never met, you'd never have a chance at life?

Believe it or not, but most people actually like life!

Yeah, me too
We are all gonna die anyway though. Would you rather have a short, exciting life or a long, boring one?

This idea drives me insane. My existence is an exceptionally rare gift and I am letting it wash away.

The truth hurts. A lot of people are in denial. Life sucks is basically a defense mechanism. If they can't face reality obviously they don't really want to kill themselves

I always fantasized about being the "end of my family's lineage".
Both my divorced parents have no other children and they don't want to have anymore (even i wasn't an intentional pregnancy).
However, my father's sister, who was married with an infertile man for like 12 years and adopted a kid, basically traded the infertile guy and got herself another one: a family man, married and with a daughter. Together they had 2 twins. So this stupid cow ruined my plans.
Now on my mother's side, my uncle is 38 and still doesn't have kids. However his newest girlfriend (he had quite a few) is a religious nut and wants to marry and build a family. So far i think he has been holding her back. Let's see for how long.
Heh, at least i will end my parents lineage.

My mom would usually say that she shouldn't of had a second child, since she never accounted for how messed up I'd turn out to be, kudos to me for being the fastest sperm though.

It's not always a defense mechanism. Lots of people have had unavoidable tragedies and illnesses, etc.

There is a lot of luck involved in life, that's just reality.

Very true, I see a lot of posts around here where people don't want to accept that life can and is a great thing to many people.

There can be silver lining in suicide, I get to at least go out young, give life the finger, and hopefully appear as having more guts than people think at the moment.
