Yeah... the suicide fences are on the northbound side. I didn't look on the southbound but I don't think they're there. Oh, wait, I can just look in a minute when I'm going over. Too bad the ex wouldn't just stop and let me out. Lol. Nevermind, I can't see. We're on the lower level.

No fencing on the southbound side other than the fence that closes the walkway off...
I'm not sure how important this is to you, but be careful about outing yourself by accidentally taking your own photo in the rearview mirror. You missed this time, I can't see your face, but you might want to be careful in the future.
There is no pedestrian access on this side of the bridge. I also think you got your north/south mixed up. The anti-suicide fences are on the southside of the GWB
I have read of this bridge. I'm not extremely far from it. However I'm closer to another bridge in my town. Sometimes it is known as the suicide bridge. I won't name it, but its in the same state as this bridge.
The Palisades Cliffs are also nearby and have become a semi-successful jumping off point. The barriers to get on the cliff, particularly at one of the lookout points, are pathetically low. You can literally step over the barrier and onto the cliff.

I hate the fact that a lot of bridges already have suicide prevention measures (fences, railings, nets, barriers, etc.) installed and I believe in the coming year or so there will be more bridges that have these. I know that as of current day, the New River Gorge Bridge does not contain a suicide net or fence, but that's located in West Virginia, which may/not always be accessible to people who don't live near there.
Yeah quite a few new bridges built now have a lot of suicide prevention methods. Really tall fences, nets, barriers, etc. Some older ones are easier to jump off of, but there might be a net beneath it. Though secluded bridges in less populated areas are generally accessible for the most part, I've noticed.

What in the fuck sense does it make to have barriers up on only one side anyway? Is the other side in progress or am I missing something?

Omg, I didn't even think of that. I've had a pic of myself up here, so I'm not that worried about that, but I am SUPER paranoid about how I look in pictures. I absolutely hate getting my picture taken.

There's no pedestrian access on the other side. No pedestrians=no need for a barrier.
