52 year old female in Texas gun question , can they find out my mental health history or can I just lie , will the fact I've been in inpatient flag me ? And any tips on what kind of gun that I should buy that wouid seem believable that I would want it for self defense

If you've been court-ordered institutionalized in a mental facility, federal law, not Texas law, would prohibit you from possessing a firearm. In all likelihood, you will be flagged, unless there is a snafu with the process. There are ways you can petition a court to regain your Constitutional right to possess a firearm, but I'm sure it would take legal representation. If you lie when undergoing a background check, you can open yourself up to whole bunch of trouble.
It wasn't court ordered , I went to hospital with panic attacks and feeling suicidal and they transferred me to inpatient facility , I was only there one night what do u think will I have a flag ?

If you voluntarily went inpatient, you will still be able to buy a gun. I've been twice and still haven't my right to own a gun.

Here's the background check form I found on the Internet, along with the "instructions" on how line 11-f should be answered. I guess you'll have to decide how it applies to your situation.
