I was thinking, isn't hypercapnia (oxygen deprivation) / suffocation one of the most intense ways that your s.i is activated? After having an upper airway obstruction and constantly having vertigo, hypercapnic episodes over and over again, I'm starting to lose my fear of death. In fact I've gotten syncope so much (the feeling of passing out) that it's starting to feel almost euphoric/welcome.

It wasn't like this in the beggining though, I had severe bouts of dyspnea (shortness of breath) air hunger, and dizziness was so frightening, and the feeling of being on the verge or passing out would send me into extreme waves of panic.

I'm wondering, after a long set of false alarms is my brain no longer registering s.i, can this be trained by repeatedly strangling yourself if you don't have an obstruction like me?

I do know that some people at some point damage their brain centers and asphyxiation can start to feel like euphoria to them. Is S.I triggered by low blood oxygen/ carbon dioxide buildup?

I think I'm going to sn soon, I was just refused a trach tube for my breathing problems but I'm actually not scared of dying for some reason, its like my brain isn't registering the panic. This could change when I actually swallow the sn though...

Hypercapnia is triggered by carbon dioxide buildup, not low oxygen. This is why inert gas is peaceful because you are still able fo flush out the carbon dioxide and why full suspension hanging (blocking the trachea) is more painful than partial suspension.

It definitely represents the epitome of SI. You maybe be become somewhat inured to it with a lot of exposure, but I don't think you could eliminate the reaction. It's pretty built-in.

I think oxygen deprivation can induce a feeling of euphoria, which is the reason some people engage in auto-erotic practices.
